Zac Purton, representing Hong Kong, has enjoyed a sensational weekend in Japan as he won the 26th World Super Jockeys Series after landing his second winner of the series at Tokyo Racecourse today.
This success came as a great boost ahead of his participation in the LONGINES International Jockeys’ Championship at Happy Valley on Wednesday, 5 December.
Having racked up 22 points after the first day of competition, Purton added 10 more points in the third leg on Sunday, as he rode three-year-old colt Galileo Barows into a fifth place finish in the Marvelous Jockeys Trophy (dirt, 1600m).
He later secured his victory as he rode four-year-old colt Satono Panther to win the last leg – the Prominent Jockeys Trophy (turf, 2000m).
The results gave Purton a total of 52 points, 12 points more than third leg winner Suguru Hamanaka at 40.
Three other overseas jockeys – who will be coming to Hong Kong to take part in the LONGINES IJC on Wednesday week – also achieved good results in Japan as British jockey Ryan Moore finished the series in 3rd, Australian jockey Craig Williams in 5th and another British rider William Buick in 10th.

Zac Purton and Matthew Chadwick will join Douglas Whyte as Hong Kong's representatives in the 2012 LONGINES International Jockeys’ Championship on Wednesday 5 December, when 12 top class jockeys from eight racing jurisdictions, including some of the world's most talented young riders, will come together at Happy Valley to battle for the title.
The list of this year’s ten invited jockeys for the LONGINES IJC was released on 15 November.
The last two places are traditionally filled by Hong Kong's current leading jockey (other than the reigning Hong Kong champion, Douglas Whyte, who is already included) and leading local jockey as at 22 November.
Purton is currently the joint leading jockey in the Hong Kong’s premiership, while Chadwick is currently the leading local jockey. This pair have therefore been allocated the two remaining places.
In accordance with the prospectus for the LONGINES IJC races, Chadwick's normal 2-pound weight allowance will not be applicable in the four legs of this event.
