EF NOV 24 - THE WHITE HOPE DAZZLES IN CLASS RECORD TIME AS HE CHALKS UP HIS FIRST METROPOLITAN WIN
By Graham Potter | Saturday, November 24, 2012
Eagle Farm, November 24, 2012. Track - Good 3. Rail - out 1m NMW Handicap (Colts, geldings and entires) - 1400m. 1 The White Hope; 2 Sons Of God; 3 Arctic; 4 My Quilter. Time: 1-21.57. (New Class Record beating Belltone’s time of 1-22.10 set in a Group 3 event). Last 600: 34.16. Margins: 1.80; 2.30.
WINNER FEEDBACK: Trainer Matthew Dunn: “Yeah, he is pretty good. You know every time we step him up he finds a new spot. To run that time without being touched … I guess my job just comes down to keeping him in one piece now really.
“I think he is so big he looks to be not going fast at all.
“He is the same at home when he has his hit outs leading into races and the times he is capable of running … the way he is sort of shying away from his mate who is trying to keep up with him while still hard on the bit is quite amazing.
“As I said, all I’ve probably got to do is hold him together and he can do the rest.
“Certainly, since taking out my license he looks like he is the best horse we’ve had. Absolutely.”
Jockey Glen Colless: “He gives you a terrific feel. “He’s got a very high cruising speed … he comes back to you pretty good for a young horse.
“Horses that run along like he does usually go a bit keener than you want them to go. He surprisingly comes back to you and relaxes.
“From half-a-mile to the corner he got into a really nice rhythm. When I just asked him to quicken a bit on the corner he could just feel him lift underneath you.
“He does run a lot on fear as well. At home he is quite a funny horse to ride.
“He will lose that fear factor. He has come a long way already from what he was. He was a bit of a mongrel horse early on and Matty has done a terrific job to get him this far.
“I think the day I do really put a couple around his tail you’ll find he will find something. He is just one of those horses.”
