DOOMBEN FEBRUARY 2: DAVID FOWLER SELECTS ...
By David Fowler | Saturday, February 2, 2013
Form expert David Fowler’s runs through his selections for the Doomben card.
Race 1:
Not getting too involved here and chances are well found. JOLIE MADELEINE (6) to have the edge on AQUATOR (2) but little value. Race 2:
SHOW AFFECTION (4) went terrifically in a strong GC race last start and back to no metro win standard against her own sex, she looks hard to beat. Odds short enough though. WHITESAILS (6) runs well from the good gate while BEGGIN (1) can run well fresh and TICKET TO DREAM (3) is back in winning form. Rough chances, 2,7,8,11,12,13 Race 3:
PICKABEE (7) is lightly-raced and promising. Blinkers on today suggest he will race forward and go well. Well backed at fixed odds is an encouraging sign as well. CONGO (1) is in form and gets a good run while ACCIDENTAL (2) is a chance but I'm concerned by the weight and the distance. Rough chances 2,4,8,10,12 Race 4:
Small field with scratchings and tactics will be paramount. SHEZAHOTSHOT (1) will give them a start but is racing well and suited in this class. MATABRAHMA (4) will be competitive while EPIC TERRA (2) and MANICERO (3) will set the pace. Not a lot of value here. Race 5:
WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY (2) has never race better. Very game latest GC 4th and goes forward here and gets good run. Foolproof eachway or save on LUCKY LUNA (1) who is the class runner and likes this track and trip. Rough chances 3,4,5,6,10 Race 6:
Surely GUNDY SON (3) wins today. Coming off solid GC 2nd and hasn't struck such a weak race in a long time. Track drying out assists as well. DOUBTFUL JACK (2) was solid at GC and this trip suits better. Rough chances 1,7,8,9,11,12
Race 7:
STRADON (7) is a special. Fitter after two runs back from a spell and has always shown a splash of class. Boxed to get the run of the race. Save on SINISTER PRINCE (1) who is extra smart and goes well fresh but STRADON will grab him late. Rough chances 2,5,8,10,12,13 Race 8:
FUNTANTES (1) is a quality mare and is drawn to ping to the front and be hard to beat. PLAYTIME (4) is in peak form and will hit the line hard while the in-form AMALFI DREAMS (11) is mapped to sit outside FUNTANTES and will be competitive. Rough chances 2,3,5 Race 9:
GENERAL EXHIBIT (3) looks awfully hard to beat. A track and trip winner who is drawn to box seat and did well off a wide alley last start EF 3rd. Drops 3kg into the bargain. NOOGOORA BURR (2) is the hardest to beat because he too will secure a good trip off the right alley. LOCKS LEGEND (15) had a big margin and a fast time up his sleeve at Ipswich. Harder here but don't dismiss. Rough chances 4,6,12,13 Race 10:
FLYING HOME (10) is an above average stayer who "flew" in his Doomben win three runs ago then raced well twice in Sydney. Has the last shot here. NOISY OCEAN (1) was ridden impatiently at GC and will do better here (track and trip winner) while SQUARE UP (9) doesn't win often but is racing solidly. Rough chances 3,4,7,8 BEST BETS: STRADON, GENERAL EXHIBIT BEST EACHWAY: WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY BEST ROUGHIE: COWORTH PARK QUADDIE: 1 7 / 1 4 11 / 2 3 15 / 1 9 10
