EAGLE FARM, MARCH 16 - DAVID FOWLER SELECTS ...
By David Fowler | Saturday, March 16, 2013
HRO's resident form expert David Fowler looks at today's meeting at Eagle Farm Form assessed to a dead 5 surface … should be a perfect track for all racing. RACE ONE:
Tricky with several first starters. OOSTHUIZEN (4) was a tip at its first start and went reasonably. With in-form stable. MON VIA VITA (8) is no star but is speedy and 1000m suits. Has the race experience. SAGACIOUS LADY (10) is a first starter and trialled OK Tuesday. Rough chance 5. Unknown 2 and 3. RACE TWO:
Same story as the first. SEQUALEX (2) is a first starter who showed good speed in T'ba trial win. SIR PRANG (3) and SAGAS GIFT (9i) are both first starters and both in good hands and both trialled OK EF Tuesday. Rough chances 5 6 7 10 Unknown 4 and 8. RACE THREE:
Weak maiden. LADY PRIMM (2) should have finished closer in first start Ips 4th when well fancied. Might go forward here in a race devoid of pace. CHOIRS (1) has the form but has the convictions as well (20 runs to date, no wins). This pair should quinella. Rough chances 3 4 5 6. RACE FOUR:
CRAZY MAMMA (5) is clearly in the right race. Goes forward and either leads or sits outside leader. She'll be short but KUMALI (2) could be a knockout because small field assists and she has gone well first-up previously. Rough chances 3 6 7. RACE FIVE:
Weak maiden. SOLE ILLUSION (1) was disappointing Ips 3rd but the track was heavy so maybe that was an excuse. Would be a "moral" on previous D'bn 2nd. Should win but odds will be short. EMPEROR CASINO (4) trialled OK at D'bn after average Victorian form but might improve in this company. Rough chances 6 7 9.
RACE SIX:
PLATINUM MINT (14) is a handy filly who has run well at her past 2 GC runs. Should be foolproof each-way. DARK CHARGER (1) doesn't win out of turn (2 from 20) but past 2 runs good enough to be a leading chance in this. PURRINGA (10) is the best horse in the race, first-up and badly drawn but don't overlook. Rough chances 2 3 4 6 7 8. RACE SEVEN:
JAM FANCY (3) is down in class on latest EF 8th (only beaten 3.8 lengths) and goes forward here, either leading or box-seats. Previous 2nd to Black Cash was solid. Ex-Kiwi ST ANDREWS (6) "just" won a low key race 6 weeks ago at S/Coast but I feel he could take the step up here. I'LL TAKEMANHATTAN (9) is first-up but goes well fresh and is attractively weighted. Rough chances 2 4 8 and 12. RACE EIGHT:
NOVIKOV (1) has run well in three Qld appearances and is looking for the 1500m. Doesn't strike a strong Class 1. BELVEDERE BLAST (3) finally broke his maiden status in T'ba and stable has been in form for a long time. PARTY TRICKS (7) didn't fire on cushion at S/Coast but previous GC 2nd was good. HUSH POWER (6) has struggled a little this campaign but one alley is a plus. Rough chance 8. BEST BET: CRAZY MAMMA (Race 4) BEST EACHWAY: PLATINUM MINT (Race 6) BEST ROUGHIE: GRAND MARNIER (Race 5) Quaddie: 1 4 6 / 2 10 14 / 3 6 9 / 1 3 6 7 8
