HRO’s resident form expert David Fowler takes a look at today’s meeting at Doomben ... assessed for a Dead 4 (perfect racing surface).

RACE 1:

Confident about AGITATE (1) who beat them comfortably a fortnight ago. Up to 1110m and up 2.5kg but that won't stop him. GREY COUNTESS (2) chased AGITATE home and can't see her turning the tables, particularly from a wide gate. IRON JACKET (3) is well fancied in fixed odds betting. Trialled easily and won only start in Rocky. Rough chance 9. Unknown 4.

RACE 2:

VOLKHERE (3) is short enough but gets his chance to win a staying race. SECRET GARDEN (1) was a good thing a fortnight ago but concerned by 4kg weight rise. Second spot now. Rough chances 2,5,6,7,8.

RACE 3:

EPIC TERRA (4) is a go forward horse with a great strike rate. Should be fool-proof each-way. ROCK HOME LATE (5) is another who likes to bowl in or near the lead and is racing well but winless at Doomben? GOLD SHEARS (6) mixes her form but can produce a run here. Rough chances 1,2,8.

RACE 4:

HOLD ME TIGHT (8) is a good thing. Drawn off rails, either leads or box-seats and 2 runs this time in have been sound. EPIC (3) can provide a popular quinella result. Hope he goes forward off barrier 11 and puts himself in the race. They are well clear of the others. Rough chances 2,6,7,9,13,14.

RACE 5:

DISCREET (13) did the right thing by us a fortnight ago when she jumped out of the ground to win impressively. Better draw today and down 2.5kg, can handle the older horses. BINGO ROSE (12), freshened and down 5.5kg on latest run. Colless rides her well. ONETIMEATBANDCAMP (6) flies 2nd-up and better back on dry. Rough chances 1,2,3,11,15.

RACE 6:

Difficult with key chances resuming. At least THE RINGMASTER (1) has had one run back and not disgraced at Listed level at R'hill. MEMORABLE MOMENT (6) was good last campaign and fitter for this with 2 trials and ROCKER (2) (3 from 3 1st-up) falls into the same boat. Rough chances 3 7 10 13.

RACE 7:

Typical off-season open. PROST (9) can turn tables on JOINT CHIEFS (7) after they met a fortnight ago. SKATING ON ICE (7) should have done better at GC last Sat but 1st-up run was good. Rough chances 3 5 12 14.

RACE 8:

Strong race. Hard to see SEEKING MORE (4) and TIGER DIMEJAN (5) missing the top three from where they are drawn, how they race, and an examination of their CV's. Slight preference for SEEKING MORE. QFIGHTER (3) will run well fresh. Rough chances 1 12 14 16.

BEST BET: AGITTATE (Race 1)

BEST EACHWAY: SEEKING MORE (Race 8)

BEST ROUGHIE: EUREKA DAZZLER (Race 8)
