HRO’s resident form expert David Fowler takes a look at today’s meeting at Doomben.

Form assessed for a slow 7 with a possibility of showers during the day.

RACE 1:

Thought favourite AGITATE (1) might be some risk from wide gate. Happy to back FLYING RIDDLE (3) each-way. Set for this race 1st-up and did nothing wrong in 3 runs first campaign. Gets good run and handles slow. VIENNA QUEEN (14) trialled well EF March 12 for this. Also gets good trip. Rough chances 2,8,9,13. Unknown 7?

RACE 2:

Even field and difficult. GUNNER KNOX (2) goes well fresh and more than capable track and distance. CAELLUM (8) is ready to win but wide gate a concern while ONETIMEATBANDCAMP (1) would have been top pick but not as effective on slow. Rough chances 3 5 6 9.

RACE 3:

Going TRANSPORTER (4) who is now ready to win but not as confident on slow. TOPPING (2) goes well 2nd-up and likes wet. Goes forward here. VERDASCO (3) beat TRANSPORTER (4) fair and square track and trip a fortnight ago but not as good on slow. Rough chances 1 and 7.

RACE 4:

Wet tracker TOP OF THE ROCK (7) is in form and secure a fairly easy lead here. Bet with confidence. PURE PURFFECTION (4) will run well but slow and 1110m are legitimate queries. Rough chances 2 6 and 8.

RACE 5:

Like BALKUIN (1) first-up. Genuine racehorse who knows how to find the line. Handles wet and sound fresh. KELBENJAR (2) can miss away on occasions but if jumps takes catching (good wet). SEEKING MORE (8) is some risk from gate and unknown in wet. Rough chances 6.

RACE 6:

DAZZLE US (1) was impressive track and trip a fortnight ago but goes up 4.5kg but I still think he has a bit on these. Handles wet. HANDSOME (2) does meet him better at weights and was sound in his latest 3rd but doesn't win out of turn. STOP CRYING (8) with a good gate races on pace and capable in wet. Rough chance 7.

RACE 7:

Good race. TOKAMAK (9) is coming off a winning hat-trick and should get all favours from good gate. Handles wet. WAR ENDS is a last start track and trip winner and gets good run here but not as effective on slow going. LUCKY LUNA (1) prefers a mile but handy fresh, good in wet and likes this track. Rough chances 3 5 7 8 10.

RACE 8:

VIS A TERGO (7) is unknown in wet but has gone like a bomb at past 2 runs after winning maiden. Colless offsets 11 gate. DISCREET (1) has the form and likes the wet but wide gate and apprentice are hurdles to overcome. GERMAYNE LASS (4) should bowl in front here and might take some catching. Rough chances 6 8 9 13 15.

BEST BET: TOP OF THE ROCK (Race 4)

BEST EACHWAY: BALKUIN (Race 5)

BEST ROUGHIE: VONUSTI (Race 3)
