HK MAR 10 - TREMENDOUS TURN OF FOOT CARRIES STRAIGHT GOLD TO SINGAPORE TURF CLUB TROPHY VICTORY
By Hong Kong Jockey Club | Sunday, March 10, 2013
The John Moore-trained Straight Gold displayed a tremendous turn-of-foot to win the Class 2 Singapore Turf Club Trophy over the minimum trip at Sha Tin today.
Jumping fairly from gate 6, the Stratum four-year-old gelding was positioned handily behind race-favourite Little Cow and found a clear passage with a furlong remaining.
Straight Gold cruised home strongly under Weichong Marwing to beat track specialist Go Baby Go by three-quarter of a length while Regency Luck made up some ground to take third.
Moore was delighted with Straight Gold’s performance with the addition of a sheepskin browband.
“He used to jump up at the gate last season and so we tried to use a trick, putting the sheepskin browband on him. As a result, he had a very good run behind Little Cow and kicked well.
“It’s a shame that he showed a substantial amount of blood in his trachea in the previous run but we scoped him last week and there’s no blood at all.”
Moore added that he will keep the horse over the 1000m at Sha Tin and the HKG3 Bauhinia Sprint Trophy, which will be held on 1 April, is one of the options available to him.
