HRO’s resident form expert David Fowler takes a look at today’s meeting at Doomben

Form assessed for a Dead 4 racing surface … perfect track for all runners.

RACE 1:

HOOKED (1) was impressive on debut a month ago and 1350m is a step in the right direction. VO HEART (4) should secure a comfortable lead from the rails gate and looked good at 1200m last time out. ISLA POPPY (12) caught the eye first start D'bn 6th and extra distance helps. Rough chances 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 13.

RACE 2:

BLACK CASH (8) "trotted" in at recent D'bn midweek and can handle this harder race although have EPIC (9) a lot closer to him now with the knowledge he will go forward at the start. BOREHOLE (2) is drawn well and can run a race at odds. Rough chances 1,4,5,6,11,12,15.

RACE 3:

Why can't VOLKHERE (4) win again? Strong staying performance last Saturday. MARGINS (3) is the logical danger but don't believe there should be that much of a gap between them in betting. DAZZLE US (6) is just behind this pair but will run well from a good gate. Rough chances 2 and 8.

RACE 4:

PELLEGRINI (8) turned his form around in recent easy D'bn midweek win and should control again. Hard to beat. VIKING HEART (10) finished 3.4 lengths behind PELLEGRINI but meets him better at weights now. Quinella. PRODUCT (15) prefers it wetter but is racing well and finds line. Rough chances 3,11,12,13,14,16.

RACE 5:

Tough race but I'M COOL (10) is drawn to get the run of the race and goes well fresh. ROCKER (7) is also first-up and will also appreciate the god tempo but not quite as well drawn as IM COOL. MR FAVULOUS (6) is a Doomben maiden (placed 2 of 6) but is fast with a good alley. Rough chances 1,4,13,14.

RACE 6:

Happy to go with IT'S ON THE POCKET (2) and CARMORA (5) to quinella this race after they did the same thing here 10 days ago. CARMORA will be fitter. PROVERB (1) is down on form in Sydney but I suppose this is easier but couldn't back at odds on offer. Rough chances 4,8,12.

RACE 7:

BUFFERING (1) is one of Australia's best sprinters who has won 5 of 6 first-up and secures easy lead here. Wins. SPIRIT OF BOOM (3) can provide quinella result and wouldn't be surprised to see STARTSMEUP (4) run well fresh. Rough chances 2,5,7.

RACE 8:

CUDDLESOME (13) is a classy mare and resumes today. Munce booked and will hit the line hard. DREAM N IGNITE (9) is your leader and goes well fresh. Go close. SHOW AFFECTION (16) is a back marker but will run on well. Rough chances 3,5,6,11,19.

BEST BET: VOLKHERE (Race 3)

BEST EACHWAY: BLACK CASH (Race 2)

BEST ROUGHIE: ISLA POPPY (Race 1)

QUADRELLA: 1, 4, 6, 7, 10, 13, 14 / 1, 2, 5 / 1 / 3, 6, 9, 13, 16
