EF MAY 11: DOUBTFILLY TOUGHS IT OUT
By Graham Potter | Monday, May 13, 2013
EAGLE FARM, MAY 11, 2013.
Track - Heavy 9.. Rail - True. Ticketek Class 6 Plate - 1200m. 1 Doubtfilly; 2 Someday; 3 Longshoreman; 4 Maury Time: 1-12.58. Last 600: 36.88. Margins: 0.20; 2.30.
DAVID FOWLER’S RACE WRAP:
“Doubtfilly was given a lovely ride by young Anthony Allen.
“Always a great thrill for an apprentice to win on these big days because normally apprentices aren’t too much in demand with most of the races being non-claiming races, but that was a claiming race and he steered Doubtfilly to victory by a half-neck.
“The horse jumped well. She enjoyed the box-seat run.
“Allen had two options coming to the turn. Go to the fence or go to the outside. He picked the right one, coming to the outside on the better ground … and then she was very brave in the run to the line holding Someday, who will take good benefit from that run, as will the third placed Longshoreman.
Doubtfilly is a good wet-tracker. She has won on the heavy in the past. That was her fifth win in start number fourteen.”
WINNER FEEDBACK:
TRAINER STUART KENDRICK:
“We went to the Weetwood last start and I think I made a bit of a mistake there, but it was great to see her back today.
“She loves the soft tracks. She won by five at the Gold Coast in the big QTIS Plate own there some time ago and we were hoping for rain in the Slipper that year, but it didn’t happen.
“We have the Guineas in mind. That’s 1400 this year and we’ve been thinking that might suit her and the way she kicked on today nothing’s happened to change my mind.
“I’m just going to see how she pulls up and have a chat to the owners. It was a tough run today and it did take her a little bit to get over the Weetwood run, so we just want to look after here a little bit.
“Maybe fresh will be the way to go.”
JOCKEY ANTHONY ALLEN:
“She is my favourite little filly. I’ve just done a little bit of work on her and just loved her ever since.
“She was struggling a bit on the fence. It was really bottomless there. I thought I’d follow Hughie (Bowman – on Dream‘N’Ignite). He knows where he is going, so I thought I can’t go wrong here.
“Then I just brought her out wide. She took a while to wind into it but, once she did, she got there.”
PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Doubtfilly): 9.00 in to 7.50. Favourite (Sookie): 3.80 out to 4.00 in to 3.80. Finished eighth.
STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Heza Jetsetter (R. Wiggins) began awkwardly and lost ground. Dream'n'ignite (H. Bowman) jumped awkwardly and shifted out, coming into contact with Mishani Warrior (J. Byrne).
Near the 1000m Maury (T. Harrison) raced fiercely at the heels of Dream'n'ignite and had to be restrained.
Someday (C. Munce) and Double Impact (E. Wilkinson) raced wide throughout.
Someday laid in under pressure in the home straight and over the concluding stages brushed Doubtfilly (A. Allen).
H. Bowman reported that Dream'n'ignite did not handle today's track conditions. Trainer D. Forster reported to stewards in days following the event that the mare had pulled up with no abnormalities, and would continue on with current preperation.
T. Bell reported that Sookie failed to handle today's track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination of Sookie revealed no abnormalities.
Dream'n'ignite lost its off-hind plate in running.
