FROM MY PERSPECTIVE - PERON KEEPS WINNING ... AND I STILL DON'T THINK WE'VE SEEN THE BEST OF HER

It was a good day on the track for Patinack Farm at Doomben on Saturday where both Peron and Sookie saluted in what was possibly one of the swansongs for the Nathan Tinkler set up as we know it.
I’ve had a wrap on Peron from the start. She was impressive on Saturday and yet I still don’t thing we’ve seen the best of her.
I rode her a little bit close. John Thompson and I thought with the track being the way it was it might have been an advantage to be midfield or closer than midfield. She wasn’t really comfortable with that.
She drew a good gate and I just had to ride her outside her comfort zone to be in that position. I think that left her a little bit vulnerable at the finish, but you can’t take anything away from her. She ended up winning impressively and she beat a pretty good field.
The acceleration was there when I asked for it in spite of riding her forward. She just cruised past them.
She wanted to switch off a little bit when she found herself in front because normally she doesn’t hit the lead until late. She found herself there a bit early on Saturday.
As I say she is an impressive type. I’ve been fortunate enough to have a filly like her to ride. She’s only been beaten once in six starts.
I am not certain where she will head now. It depends on the sales.

I know I have said this before … and I normally wouldn’t repeat myself … but it is an appropriate time for me to reiterate how great a time it has been for me at Patinack.
They have given me really good support since I came back from Mauritius looking to break back in to the Brisbane riding ranks. That is not an easy thing to do when you had been away as long as I had been.
With their support I placed high on the leader-board early in the season and things kicked on from there.
It’s been a good relationship and a strong support base for me which I really value.

I rode Spirit Of Boom in the Doomben 10 000 and I think he ran very well.
Like everybody else, he was comfortably beaten by the winner Epaulette, but he wasn’t that far off the top sprinter Buffering and he had both Better Than Ready and Your Song behind him at the line.
Spirit Of Boom needs a good barrier and a firm track to be most effective.
The Doomben surface on Saturday was not his preferred ground. He drew wide. He was never on the track so it was a good effort to run fourth in that line-up, I thought.
I think the main thing with him is the firm track … then the better barrier.
He is a live chance in the Stradbroke!

The carnival does up the tempo of everyday life but the game, ultimately, is still all about winners whether on the big stage or at bread and butter race meetings.
We all know this is very much a confidence game and I can’t complain the way things have been going.
It has been pointed out to me that I am the only rider to partner a winner at all four of the Saturday carnival meetings this month which is satisfying.
I also came home on two winners at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday which helped keep the scoreboard moving.
Looking to do more of that this week.
Till next week, Michael
