DOOM JULY 13 – AGITATE GETS THE JOB DONE

By Graham Potter | Monday, July 15, 2013

DOOMBEN, JULY 13, 2013.
Track – Slow 6; Rail – True.
QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap – 1200m.
1 AGITATE; 2 Little Bit Ditsy; 3 Nude Secrets; 4 Choose A Saga.
Time: 1-11.48; Last 600: 35.96.
Margins: 0.40; 0.20.

AGITATE (Sequalo – Stirring) is owned by A Havig, M Halle, Mrs P Bondfield; G Conlon, H G Johnstone; A Housten; A Wilson; Mrs V Wilson; D Streten and Greer Clothier (Mgr: Ms S Greer)

This was the colt’s third win from seven starts he has now amassed $181 700 in stake earnings.

WINNER FEEDBACK:

TRAINER KELLY SCHWEIDA:

“You can give the rider ten out of ten for that.
“He pinged the lids and I thought … oh oh, but he got him back.

“The track-work rider Glen O’Sullivan has been doing a lot of work with the horse. We’ve been riding him six lengths back off another horse and been making him chase so I did think, if he could settle, he would be hard to beat.

“We’ll keep Agitate going now. There is very little reason not to.

“The other one (second placed Little Bit Ditsy) ran super as well. A little bit further and she would have grabbed him.

“I think she is well above average. She hadn’t run for thirty-one days. Michael Cahill gave me a good wrap on her after he rode her on Tuesday and I think the run today confirmed she is quite talented.”

JOCKEY GLEN COLLESS:

“He pinged the gates again. That’s been his trouble all along … he begins that good he is pretty hard to stop.

“I just put on the anchors straight away and slid to one off.

“Even when he did slot away he didn’t really help himself. He wanted to over-race a bit mid-race and when we went to the 600 the horse in front of me (Fasta Than Light) wasn’t dragging him anywhere and he popped out earlier than I would have wanted to, but it was just because he was over-racing.

“He has got a real turn of foot early. We been trying to offset that a bit so that he can finish off his races but, when he jumps that far in front, he just drags himself up there anyway.

“Today we just came out with a set plan to snag him, but when he began three-quarters-of-a-length in front of them I was a very worried but, as I said, I just snagged him. Then it was up to a bit of luck and I got the right run.

“He is a really nice colt but he still has to learn to come back. He’ll be pretty good when he does that.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:

Connections advised that AGITATE would be ridden further back in the field if circumstances permit. AGITATE was ridden midfield.

JOLIE MADELEINE (M. Hellyer) was slow to begin. MY BELOVED (T. Bell) and ARCHITECT (A. Spinks) were tightened for room between AGITATE (G. Colless) and CHOOSE A SAGA (E. Wilkinson), both of which shifted ground. RUSTY COLOURS jumped inwards at the start, bumping AQUATOR (P. Hammersley). TISANI TOMSO (L. Tarrant) and LITTLE BIT DITSY (M. Cahill) began awkwardly.

Near the 700m, AQUATOR (P. Hammersley) commenced to race fiercely and when steadied off the heels of MY BELOVED, shifted out, taking ARCHITECT (A. Spinks) wider on the track.

Passing the 500m, RUSTY COLOURS improved up on to the heels of LITTLE BIT DITSY and had to be restrained.

At the same stage, AGITATE commenced to over-race and shifted out from the heels of FASTA THAN LIGHT (P. Schmidt).

Approaching the 400m, RUSTY COLOURS and JOLIE MADELEINE (M. Hellyer) came into contact on several occasions.

Upon straightening, LITTLE BIT DITSY shifted out around the heels of FASTA THAN LIGHT and in doing so dictated the line of FASTA THAN LIGHT, taking that horse out on to JOLIE MADELEINE, which further resulted in AQUATOR, which was trailing JOLIE MADELEINE, having to be steadied from the heels of that horse.

ARCHITECT hung in under pressure in the straight.

M. Speers reported that RUSTY COLOURS over-raced during the event.

M. Speers, rider of the 6th placegetter, RUSTY COLOURS, was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts right out to the finish line.
