BRC JUL 29 - CAMBER D’ORSAY WINS COMFORTABLY

By Graham Potter | Friday, July 31, 2009

Eagle Farm, July 29, 2009.
F&M Maiden Plate (3yo and up - Set Weights) - 1400m. Time: 1-25.35.
Track - Good 3. Rail - out 12m.
1st - Camber D'Orsay; 2nd - Sexy Star: 3rd - Salcanro

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Alan Doyle: “It was a good run last start ... a really good run. She drew wide and then when she did pull wide on the corner she wanted to run around and got very lost ... same happened today. When she hit the front she got lost. She’s only had three starts. We’re stepping up steadily in distance. She’ll definitely go a mile. The further she goes the better she is going to get. Yeah, and what can you say about Stathi (Katsidis). You don’t get better than Stathi. He’s ridden a lot of winners for me. He rode a Weetwood winner for me - Vacen Lee (in 2000).”

Jockey Stathi Katsidis: “I won my first-ever Weetwood with Allan (Doyle) - so we go back a bit. I had to work a little bit too hard early to cross. I was hoping to get in one out, one back but I couldn’t get there. So I had to push forward and sit outside the leader, but, you know, I had a nice run while I was there.

“I knew from the time I got on here that she would sort of be hard to beat. She had the right attitude. Not many horses have the attitude she has. So, yeah, I was happy with her the minute I got on her. Having said that, she normally goes straight in at the start, but today she was a little bit of a hassle. Nothing serious. It’s just that she is that nice a horse, if something little goes wrong it upsets her, but otherwise she does everything right.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Camber D’Orsay): 4.40 out to 5.50.
Favourite (Feher Arany): 5.00 in to 3.50. Finished eighth.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Near the 700m, In Guangzhou (L. Cook) shifted in and away from Sexy Star (P. Wolfgram) and bumped the hind quarters of Ignition Miss (M. Cahill). Sexy Star (P. Wolfgram) raced three wide for the entire race. Soteira (B. El-Issa) compounded over the final 500m of the race and finished some distance from the main body of the field. Trainer W. Abbey was instructed not to start the horse in the metropolitan area until the horse shows by its form in the provincial area that it is up to metropolitan standard. A swab sample was taken from Soteira. Salcanro (M. Hellyer) cast its off-hind plate in running.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Feher Arany, S. Galloway reported that the horse might have got its tongue behind the bit and he also noticed that the filly seemed to have a breathing abnormality during the race. Trainer T. Bailey reported that the horse had worked well in preparation for today's race, however he was disappointed with its failure to finish the race off today and indicated that Feher Arany now would be sent for a spell. A post race veterinary examination of Feher Arany revealed the horse had sustained a laceration to the medial aspect of the off-fore heel. A swab sample was taken from Feher Arany.

When questioned regarding the poor performance of Ignition Miss, M. Cahill stated that the horse had a nice run behind the leaders and travelled well, however was unable to offer any tangible excuse other than the filly did receive some pressure near the 700m when In Guangzhou (L. Cook) shifted in and bumped the horse's hind quarters. Trainer S. Hunter agreed that the horse was disappointing today and indicted that the horse's best form of recent times has been on rain affected tracks.
