EAGLE FARM FEB 22: DAVID FOWLER SELECTS ...
By David Fowler | Saturday, February 22, 2014
Form assessed for a good 3.
RACE 1:
AIMEE (3) was impressive in D’bn win last Sat and can score again as going to 1300m is a plus and wide alley negated by her “get back” racing pattern. NO PROBLEM (1) and VINTAGE BON (6) were both respectable behind Looks Like The Cat EF 1200m a fortnight ago and will be competitive here. Rough chances 2, 4, 8. RACE 2:
TRAKSTAR (4) is a moral. Up-and-comer and meets some leg weary rivals. I think the $1.65 is value. WAR ENDS (1) ran well D’bn last Sat, up in weight but has won at 1800m while FRETON (5) continues to run honestly these conditions. Rough chances 2 and 6.
RACE 3:
While VALERIE D’AMOUR (10) was well ridden to win track and trip a fortnight ago she clearly showed she can stay and with 1.5kg less and a good gate she can win again. SENTA DESERT (5) was runner-up to her in that race after a wide trip and may be the main threat again while PLUMAGE (3) is the only other winning possibility but has to give the others some weight. Rough chances 2 and 9.
RACE 4:
RARE FRAGRANCE (12) has struck the right race. Strong EF 2nd this track and trip Jan 29 when wide and kept coming. C.Munce rides now. AWESOME RANSOM (4) is well placed in this race and will find the line well while KING LUDWIG (9) will give cheek in front and is value odds. Rough chances 2, 6, 7 10 and 11.
RACE 5:
We selected CASARATI (2) at big odds a fortnight ago and he should have finished closer than his 3rd. Goes to 1800m now and this will suit him better than main rival SECRET HARMONY (1) who will be competitive nevertheless while CARDICIAN (5) ran well in that same race (wide) and is at attractive odds. Rough chances 3, 4 and 7.
RACE 6:
TRAIL BOSS (1) was once considered suspect in the city but not so this campaign and his latest track and trip 2nd was strong. Rises in weight but down in class and selected on both totes. ALL THAT (2) will give cheek for a long way (generous odds fixed) while THE STOREMAN (6) is a consistent city galloper and can run well 1st-up. Rough chances 5, 7, 11, 13 and 14.
RACE 7:
Tricky. FIRE UP FIFI (2) is generally better after a 1st-up run but she is a better mare now than earlier in her career and a strong tempo will assist her cause. Happy to be with her despite half a knock from the stable. TIGER TEES (1) hasn’t threatened in last 2 campaigns and primarily goes in on reputation while TUKIYO (13) rises in grade but is fit and in-form. Rough chances 5, 8, 9, 10 and 12.
RACE 8:
ESCOFFIER (2) has run out of his skin in 2 runs this campaign and no reason why he won’t fire again from a good gate and racing on pace. DOCTOR DAVID (8) beat him home when they met a fortnight ago and should be considered again while BUAKAW (4) will be the late finisher ridden cold. Rough chances 3, 5, 7, 9, 10 and 13.
BEST BET: TRAKSTAR (Race 2).
BEST EACHWAY: ESCOFFIER (Race 8).
BEST ROUGHIE: KING LUDWIG (Race 4).
QUADRELLA : 1, 2, 5, 7 / 1, 2, 6, 7, 13 / 1, 2, 6, 8, 13 / 2, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 13.
