Form assessed for a good 3

RACE 1:

Not keen on this race. CANNIZZARO (5) disappointed last Saturday but is better than that and several gear changes implemented here. Worth another chance. DESPINA (8) was handy in D’bn midweek win and this is not much stronger while SOVEREIGN SON (4) has shaped well in 2 T’ba runs. Rough chances 1, 6 and 7.

RACE 2:

Open staying race. HIGH KIN (5) will be the significant improver here after 2 runs from a spell and generally performs well 3rd-up. Worth remembering ran 2nd last year’s Ipswich Cup. COLLAR (10) is an on-pacer and working to a win. Sound EF 2nd last Saturday. SECRET GARDEN (7) is an honest stayer but rarely wins. Rough chances 2, 3, 4 and 6.

RACE 3:

TAMBOS JEWEL (4) didn’t run out the 1500m at EF last Sat (5th) but can redeem herself this trip with a good gate and M.Cahill to ride. DANYME (6) is better than her 1st-up 7th here a fortnight ago and can go well here while stable-mate ELUSIVE STORM (3) has been kept fresh since her 1st-up D’bn midweek win. Rough chances 1, 7, 8, 9 and 10.

RACE 4:

Think NOOGOORA BURR (5) is great each-way value. Strikes the right race with a good barrier and last win was this track and trip in good time. Keen. LITTLE LONG HORN (3) chased home well on heavy here a fortnight ago and will be competitive while the winner of that race LE CAP (1) must be considered as he is in form. Rough chances 2, 6, 7, 8 and 11.

RACE 5:

Will EXCELLANTES (1) strike an easier open class assignment? I doubt it. Perfectly drawn and coming off a strong EF 4th, attractively weighted with Aidan Holt’s claim. SEEKING MORE (4) will lead and take catching. Clear 2nd pick. FLORAL INSIGHT (3) comes here with decent NSW form and the rails alley is a plus. Trifecta hope. Rough chance 9.

RACE 6:

KURTLEY (1) is a professional type coming off a solid EF 3rd. Drawn to get good run and this race is no stronger. TRAGEDY (8) is first go at the mile but the rails alley ensures a cosy run. Has short sprint and will be competitive while EMPRESS ME (2) is a consistent solid finisher. Rough chances 3, 4, 6 and 9.

RACE 7:

SHIRAZ ATTACK (13) is a quality filly, 1st-up, but goes well fresh and trialled nicely at GC. Settles midfield and will swoop late. OLYMPIC ANTHEM (7) was super 1st-up D’bn midweek but the 13 alley is not ideal. RUDY (2) gets the chance today to prove he is simply not a wet track wonder (all 4 wins on heavy). Rough chances 1, 3, 4, 5 and 10.

RACE 8:

CUM DIVIDEND (7) has been a competitive metropolitan campaigner since arriving from Victoria and gets all the favours today from a good gate with a 3kg claim. PLAYACTION (10) will be value odds and gets a good run from the rails gate while JUST A PERLA (9) is a last start track and trip winner and will run well again. Rough chances 3, 4, 8, 11 and 12.

BEST BET: EXCELLANTES (Race 5).

BEST EACHWAY: NOOGOORA BURR (Race 4).

BEST ROUGHIE: AGENT BLUE (Race 8).

QUADRELLA: 1, 3, 4 / 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9 / 1, 2, 4, 7, 10, 13 / 3, 4, 7, 9, 10.
