EAGLE FARM APRIL 26: DAVID FOWLER SELECTS ...
By David Fowler | Saturday, April 26, 2014
Form assessed for a good 3
RACE 1:
Start all important in this 1000m scamper. THE STOREMAN (1) loves the short trip and ran excellently in the Weetwood despite being unplaced (slow out, wide). Suited now. OUR BOY MALACHI (4) is a central Queenslander with a big boom on him (won 10 from 11) and alley is a boost. SHAFEEQ (3) likes the EF 1000m and went well 1st-up. Rough chances 2 and 5.
RACE 2:
Typical Brisbane stayer’s event. RAEBURN (6) is getting long in the tooth but nothing wrong with past 2 runs. Favourably weighted against several rivals here. BRAVE ALI (2) will take it up in front and has a good chance to complete the city hat-trick. POSTE RESTANTE (5) was unlucky latest 4th but not well weighted. Rough chances 1 and 8.
RACE 3:
FURBISH (2) is a standout at short odds. Finished like a bullet debut EF 1000m win and doesn't strike a super-hot Saturday field. OUR ROCK O'REILLY (3) finished well EF 3rd last Saturday and has a strong place chance. DEUCED (4) has run well both starts and is a live top 3 chance. Rough chances 6 and 10.
RACE 4:
Open race. NOISY OCEAN (1) never featured 1st-up but didn't go unnoticed, finishing off along rails. Better drawn now to race more forward. Value odds. JUST A PERLA (2) is in peak form, leads them up, take catching. MAGIC IN MOTION (11) runs well with Colless from a good gate. Rough chances 5 6, 7, 12 and 13.
RACE FIVE:
Open race. ELMANTOSH (5) has always shown above-average ability. Looked good 1st-up D'bn 8th unsuitable 1350m. EF mile is ideal 2nd up. CARMORA (11) had a hard run 1st-up at D'bn but might secure lead today and take catching. GUNNER KNOX (1) is honest and gets a good run. Rough chances 3, 4, 12 and 14.
RACE SIX:
Why can't RUDY (1) win again? Flew home and beat several of these last start 1350m D'bn win and has won at the EF mile as a 2yo. Good alley is a plus. BODEGA NEGRA (3) had no luck in that race. Proven at the mile and drawn the rails, improver. SHIRAZ ATTACK (13) went well 1st-up and fitter now. Rough chances 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 14.
RACE SEVEN:
I think market framers have assessed this race wrongly. SPIRIT OF BOOM (1) has been outstanding at the top level for a long time and with a good tempo and a small field, expect him to zoom past them. SNITZERLAND (7) is a quality mare who leads but compare her CV to SPIRIT OF BOOM. RIVER LAD (4) is underrated but will go well 1st-up. Rough chances 3, 5 and 8.
RACE EIGHT:
Not the strongest of Class 6's. TIME TO PLUNDER (8) finished well in open company last time out and with D.Brown riding will take some holding out. REGULAR (6) is a talented type and will run well fresh. GALLINARI (16) is a lightweight hope from a good alley. Rough chances 3, 4 and 10.
BEST BET: FURBISH (Race 3).
BEST EACHWAY: ELMANTOSH (Race 5).
BEST ROUGHIE: NOISY OCEAN (Race 4).
QUADRELLA: 1, 5, 11, 12 / 1, 3, 4, 5, 13 / 1, 4, 7 / 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 16.
