END TO END WIN FOR THREE SWALLOWS
By Graham Potter | Saturday, May 9, 2009
Doomben - 1MW Handicap - 1350m. Time: 1-18.66. Track: Good 3. Rail: True. 1 Three Swallows; 2 Eire Of Magic; 3 Release Me
Three Swallows (Amy Taylor), a half-brother to the 2000 Melbourne Cup winner Brew, crossed comfortably from a horror draw and proceeded to dictate the course of events to his own advantage. His kick at the top of the straight turned out to be a race-winning move as, although the eventual place-getters were closing up quickly at the line, Three Swallows had done enough to secure the fifth success of his career.
WINNER FEEDBACK: Jockey Amy Tailor: “He was really good. (Trainer) John (Thomas) told me to go forward and lead. He said he is better from the front and they won’t run him down, so I just kicked him out and went for balance. He dropped the bit when I got to the front, relaxed and then kicked away at the 600. When I got to the line he really laboured, but he just fell in. The last few strides he struggled. He was really feeling it.”
PRICE FLUCTUATIONS: Winner (Three Swallows): 21.00 out to 31.00. Favourite (Eire Of Magic): 3.60 in to 3.50 out to 4.00. Finished second.
STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT: Apprentice A. Taylor (Three Swallows) was fined $200 for excessive use of the whip. Eire Of Magic had a tendency to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.
