DOOMBEN, SEPT 27: DAVID FOWLER SELECTS ...
By David Fowler | Saturday, September 27, 2014
Form assessed for a dead 4.
RACE 1:
COWORTH PARK (2) appeals as a progressive stayer and is a last start Doomben winner. Only has five rivals to dispose of which COLLAR (1) should be the hardest to beat because is the likely leader and drops from open class 3rd last run. BLACK NINJA (7) spaced them in a middle distance midweek here last campaign but hasn’t really kicked on. Rough chances 5, 6 and 8.
RACE 2:
Hard race. ANOTHER WHISKEY (6) is coming off weaker form races but I like what he is doing and the one alley with Tarrant up give him an excellent each-way chance. HAZARD BAY (3) was impressive debut S/Coast win and can measure up. I’m going to back both straight out at odds on offer. AMIZADE (5) will finish late off the wide alley. Rough chances 1, 2 and 4.
RACE 3:
SHIRAZ ATTACK (8) is a talented mare, first-up but generally performs well fresh. Wish she did a little more in barrier trial but I’ll be with her. LITTLE BIT DITSY (7) is classy and first-up as well. Watch late. ELLAWISDOM (2) is risky at the gates but has a good motor. Another late finisher. Rough chances 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6.
RACE 4:
HARADA BAY (2) is in-form and has an excellent turn of speed. Little concern coming back in distance but happy to be with him. STAR SAMMY (3) secures a box seat run and will look the winner in the straight. THEFT (5) might get into a groove leading and can improve. Rough chances 1, 4 and 9.
RACE 5:
OUR BOY NICHOLAS (1) won 3 straight before a $1.65 flop here a fortnight ago when a victim of a slowly-run race. Give another chance. BERNITCHY (9) leads and is knocking on the door to win one of these races. UNDER THE HAT (3) doesn’t win out of turn but recent form is good enough to give him a top 3 chance. Rough chances 6, 7, 10 and 11.
RACE 6:
JACKS BACK (1) was well backed and slightly unlucky in a better race here a fortnight ago and can make amends today with rails gate and Grylls’ 3 kg claim. GUNDY SPIRIT (5) got the job done at Ipswich and secures a good run here while ROYAL JESTER (4) has blinkers on and down in weight today. Rough chances 6 and 9.
RACE 7:
Even lot but I couldn’t find fault with ON THE DECK’s (5) 3rd track and trip last Saturday in an arguably better race than this. Previous S/Coast 4th sound as well. Good gamble both totes. SPEEDY SAM (6) lapped them latest GC win and secures a good run here. Good strike rate (4 from 8). BIG DECISION (1) generally runs well these conditions. Rough chances 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9 and 10.
RACE 8:
I concede YOU DID WHAT (3) takes a hefty weight rise on last start track and trip win but what I’ve seen and what I’ve heard tell me that won’t top him. Keen. JUST A PERLA (5) is honest and has the alley to get every opportunity while LYRIC (4) a last start track and trip winner looks well placed again. Rough chances 1, 2, 6, 9 and 12.
BEST BET: YOU DID WHAT (Race 8).
BEST EACHWAY: ON THE DECK (Race 7).
BEST ROUGHIE: THEFT (Race 4).
QUADRELLA: 1, 3, 9, 11 / 1, 4, 5, 9 / Field / 3 by itself.
