DOOM AUG 15 - KRYPTELON SCORES FOURTH WIN IN LAST FIVE STARTS

By Graham Potter | Monday, August 17, 2009

The David Kelly trained Kryptelon resumed her winning ways, after a minor hiccup last time, to land her fourth win from her last five starts. Kryptelon has now won seven of her 22 starts and the five-year-old also has eight minor placings to her credit.

Apprentice jockey Like Rolls gave Kryptelon the run of the race as the mare box-seated and travelled comfortably all the way to the turn behind the front-running favourite Daddys Little Girl and Perri Lou.

On straightening, Kryptelon needed some luck in the running. As Perri Lou moved up to challenge the leader, Kryptelon was held up for a run for quite a way in the straight, but when the split came along the inside running rail inside the final 200m and Kryptelon was free to surge into daylight, the David Kelly trained runner wasted little time in settling the matter as she finished full of running, going past the duelling duo of Perri Lou and Daddys Little Girl with a flourish to score in style.

Doomben, August 15, 2009.
Track - Good 3. Rail - True.
Fillies And Mares NMW Handicap - 1350m. Time: 1-19.66.
1 Kryptelon; 2 Perri Lou; 3 Dell Amby.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer David Kelly: “That’s one thing about her. She is consistent and just keeps on trying. She got the inside run, but if she didn’t get through there she would have been unlucky, you know. She is probably a couple of lengths off the top grade mate, but she’s a trier. She’s paid for herself.

“To be quite honest I had a little bit of a hiccup going into the previous run (which was her only defeat in her last five starts). She sort of took a long time to get over the run when she won at Doomben (two runs back) and I just missed a little bit of work going into that 1350m race before this one. So she probably just went into it a tad under-done.

“What I was really happy with today was that she just settled beautifully and that made the way she got to the line that much better. She’s going to the paddock now. She’s earned a spell. She’s got to go out for a long spell because she is a nervous sort of a mare and she can’t race through summer, so she’ll be out for a good spell now.

Apprentice jockey Luke Rolls: “I was just sweating on a run for a bit.” (Kryptelon was in fact held up for a run from entering the straight until 175m from home). “I knew the leader (Daddy’s Little Girl) was always going to come off ... it sort of raced that way the whole race. I just hoped that she would stay there. It helped that another one (Perri Lou) came and put pressure on the leader as well, but I always had it covered I thought.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Kryptelon): 2.25 out to 2.90.
Favourite (Daddys Little Girl): 2.25 in to 2.10. Finished fourth.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Over the concluding stages Perri Lou (J. Byrne) and Daddys Little Girl (B. Stewart) came together and bumped.
