DOOMBEN: JANUARY 1: MAX IT OUT MAKES LIGHT WORK OF A TESTING ASSIGNMENT TO SHED HER MAIDEN TICKET
By Graham Potter | Friday, January 2, 2015
WINNER: MAX IT OUT (3 b f Northern Meteor – Is Amazing). Maiden Plate – 1350m. Track: Good 4; Rail: Out 6m. Time 1.20.03 (carrying 54.5kg); Last 600m: 35.30. Second: Vinnie Loves Me; Third: Ippy Girl. Won by 3.30 lengths at a starting price of $4.60.
MAX IT OUT had it all to do here. With only two runs behind her in terms of experience, the filly was asked to chase from the worst of the draw in a maximum field made up of runners of different levels of quality who would eventually finish over an eleven length spread … meaning her passage from the jump could have been compromised at any time
No need for her supporters to have worried though. The winning margin underlined MAX IT OUT’s authority on the day and also highlighted the positive step she has taken between runs.
WINNER FEEDBACK:
TRAINER TONY GOLLAN:
“It’s pretty ironic. My first runner of 2014 won and now my first runner in 2015 has won. Last year was a seven furlong maiden at huge odds at Eagle Farm and now I’ve won a similar distance maiden here today.
“We’ve got a big year to fill if it is going to be as good as last year, but we’ll be in there having a swing.
“I guess at least we’ve ticked the first box and I’m really pleased with that result. A big field of maidens and a wide draw … I did come here confident she would run well but you can never be overly confident that you will win in those circumstances … but that was Tegan Harrison riding at her absolute best.
“Getting out … being nice and positive knowing she was on a fit and healthy horse … put her into the race and the rest is history. If they are good enough, they win.
“We’ve had a pretty successful formula for twelve months. You put Tegan on the right horses … a horse like that … and you get the right result.”
