MY CALL - RACING INDUSTRY IS LOOKING FOR A MIRACLE

Remember the Mike and the Mechanics’ 1980’s hit…”All I need is a miracle”.
That’s exactly what is needed in the state election result with the ALP poised to seize power while the LNP clings on as a longshot.
How the wheel turns. The positions were totally reversed on the eve of the election.
The Queensland racing industry needs a miracle which is the LNP to form a government.
The voters’ distaste of the LNP was unequivocal but many who considered their vote protest in nature didn’t expect it would topple the ship.
Even the ALP itself was not prepared for this possible extraordinary outcome.
I’ll bet the proverbial $1.10 the ALP has no plan for racing. No risk it lies low in a list of priorities.
But after their humiliating 2012 defeat, recriminations are potentially high on their agenda.
As one LNP insider pointed out to me, ”the ALP are great haters”.
And that shouldn’t go unnoticed in racing circles. Fair to say they had their nose rubbed in it on more than occasion during the LNP’s term.
Criticism and put downs were frequent. After all, Labor wasn’t getting back into power anytime soon.
To repeat, how the wheel turns.
Despite the LNP’s unpopularity in much of the community sector, they did well for the racing industry.
They formed a strong alliance with Racing Queensland and no one could argue we aren’t in a better position than we were three years ago.
Recent ALP state governments have barely lifted a finger to promote or assist Queensland racing and their anointed administrators polarised opinion.
The LNP 2012 election victory signalled a burying of the past and a fresh start. Does the same version of the past get dug up again if Labor form government.
Start singing!

This is my first blog back from holidays and you’d be disappointed if I didn’t give the Doomben track a plug.
Rather than bore with you the results, suffice to say winners led, sat midfield or came from further behind.
And just for good measure they railed and came wide.
A perfect, unbiased surface.

I regard Secret Saga’s debut win as one of the best juvenile performances this season.
A good looker and an excellent mover, she resisted mid-race pressure and then sailed clear, running smart time.
An ideal Carnival prospect.
