SUNSHINE COAST, MARCH 7: DAVID FOWLER SELECTS ...
By David Fowler | Saturday, March 7, 2015
Form assessed for a good 4 (perfect surface).
RACE 1:
Little between my top 3 picks. MISHANI DI CAPRIO (1) is as honest as they come and not badly treated with 57kg (including claim) as a dual city winner and multiple placegetter. Stable-mate ONE STANDOUT (9) pinched a race at Doomben a month ago but one alley and the same weight are pluses. Nothing wrong with MONTANA STAR’s (3) debut win this track and trip on a testing heavy track. Rough chances 5, 7 and 8.
RACE 2:
Open staying race. SUPERCOACH (5) backs up after solid D’bn 2nd last Saturday. Good gate and 2kg claim, gets all the favours today. Back both totes. VODNIK (6) was awful last Saturday (beaten 9 lengths) but surely is better than that. Worth another chance. AY NO DIGAS (2) arrives from Sydney with average form but capable of better going on previous campaign. Rough chances 1, 3, 4, 7 and 9.
RACE 3:
EIGHT’S A PARTY (2) was a little disappointing at Doomben 3 weeks ago but the spacious Sunshine Coast track and the general opposition gives him the chance to bounce back today. MY QUILTER (1) is on a seven day back-up and will roll forward and either lead or box seat. HARD TICKER (8) is a last start track and trip winner and can run top 3 again off the rails gate. Rough chances 4, 5, 6 and 9.
RACE 4:
Even lot. UMGENI (5) is a progressive type and can handle this harder race after winning an Ipswich maiden easily last time out. POYNIKES (1) is a roll forward horse who is highly consistent and competitive. Hardest to beat. SEASHELLS (4) beat several of these at Ipswich and gets all the favours again. Rough chances 2, 3, 6 and 7.
RACE 5:
KALANDULA (1) is a classy mare with a strong finish. This track suits her well and she shouldn’t be too far back off the favourable alley. ITCHINTOWIN (5) is fitter after her 1st-up D’bn 5th and the rails alley is a plus. GRANTLY MISS (4) is in-form and goes forward. Can measure up. Rough chances 2, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12.
RACE 6:
Good Class 6. PRO CONSUL (1) was unsuited by a wide alley and a slow tempo at Doomben 3 weeks ago but different proposition today in a fast run race with the rails gate. PASATORIO (10) was excellent 1st-up on a bog track at a recent midweek here. Toughest test so far but happy to consider him. CHARGE ACCOUNT (2) has to be considered after a fast Gold Coast midweek win. Rough chances 4, 5, 6, 7 and 9.
RACE 7:
AGHAMORE (5) controlled in front easy D’bn win 3 weeks ago and no reason why he can’t do it again. JOPA (7) is honest and gets a soft run off the rails. THE PEAK (2) has to be considered after a solid 3rd at Doomben last Saturday. Rough chances 1, 3, 8 and 9.
RACE 8:
SIEGFRIED (4) is my best bet of the day. Caught late last Saturday but gets a gun run again and actually dropping in class. WEARING WINGS (11) has been kept fresh since winning GC midweek and has a chance again at odds. FELTRE (13) jumps from winning a Class 1 here but he was ultra-impressive. Worth following. Rough chances 1, 2, 6, 7, 8 and 9.
BEST BET: SIEGFRIED (Race 8).
BEST EACHWAY: PRO CONSUL (Race 6).
BEST ROUGHIE: FAIRYTALE BELLE (Race 5).
QUADRELLA: 1, 4, 5, 9, 12 / 1, 2, 10 / 2, 5, 7, 8 / 1, 4, 8, 13.
