DOOMBEN, MARCH 21: DAVID FOWLER SELECTS ...
By David Fowler | Saturday, March 21, 2015
Form assessed for a good 4.
RACE 1:
Small field and likely to be run at a slow tempo. Despite that, MONTANA STAR (2) has done well in both Sunshine Coast runs and should run the trip out well. MISHANI DI CAPRIO (1) is the likely leader and can take dictate but whether he gets the 1350m is another question. MAN OF HIS WORD (5) was sound on debut here 3 weeks ago and has a chance. Rough chances 3 and 6.
RACE 2:
HI SON (1) was good 1st-up at S/Coast 2 weeks ago and doesn’t have to do too much more to be the winner in this. KISS ME DEADLY (7) runs well this track and trip and with the light weight might take some catching. BEWHATYOUWANNABE (3) is racing consistently now and has to be given a top 3 chance. Rough chances 2, 4, 5 and 6.
RACE 3:
Open. HERRSCHAFT (7) is a maiden. Has shown promise in 4 runs and did well latest S/Coast 5th when wide all way but kept finding line. Expecting him to stay and value at $11 fixed. STROAK (1) will be well ridden by Browne. Big weight and first go at 2020m but a bit more class than many of these. HENRYVONHUFEISEN (2) comes off a good S/Coast 2nd but wide alley is a problem. Rough chances 12 and 14.
RACE 4:
Open. MISS HUSSON (7) should have won at S/Coast last time out and is a proven track and trip winner. Good alley is also a plus. ONE LAST WHIFF (13) has now had 2 runs back and can stay. Best form is on wet but that’s not worrying me too much. VALERIE D’AMOUR (12) is a proven middle distance city winner and generally produces 3rd run back. Rough chances 3, 5, 6, 14 and 16.
RACE 5:
Strong Class 6. LUCKY BLACK (4) impressed me 1st/up Ipswich in fast time and I expect him to measure up in this. Good each-way bet around $6 fixed. HE DON’T CARE (3) is in career best form and will lead for a long way. Up to 57kg now worth pointing out. DREAM OF SLIPS (2) is drawn to box-seat and should finish top 3. Rough chances 1, 5 and 7.
RACE 6:
PASSATORIO (11) appeals to me each-way at around $7 fixed. Chased home gamely behind in-form He Don’t Care at S/Coast last time out and I expect him to get a good trip in this. FLAMBOYER (5) is the favourite on past 2 sound runs but rock bottom odds for mine. GULLY COMMAND (2) can run a race despite the alley. Rough chances 1, 3, 4 and 6.
RACE 7:
Open. Thought VO HEART (5) and HOT HIT (6) were tremendous value at their fixed odds prices and I’ll be backing both. VO HEART won in a hand canter at Beaudesert 1st/up while HOT HIT is a NSW bush sprinter who knows how to win. VIENNA QUEEN (12) will get all the favours and should finish top 3. Rough chances 2, 4, 9, 10 and 13.
RACE 8:
Open. ROCBOLT (9) has been sparingly raced by trainer Bevan Laming but caught the eye 1st/up at Gold Coast. Steps up to the mile and Cassidy riding from a good gate. Value at $10 fixed. FAST ARROW (2) will find the line well while WEARING WINGS (11) is a longshot with a chance.
BEST BET: MONTANA STAR.
BEST EACHWAY: MISS HUSSON.
BEST ROUGHIE: HERRSCHAFT.
QUADRELLA: 2, 3, 4, 5 / 1, 2, 3, 5, 11 / 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 12, 13 / 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 11, 14.
