MY CALL - I'VE GOT THE LOOKS' RACE TIME REVIEWED
By David Fowler | Tuesday, May 12, 2015
David Fowler is the principal thoroughbred caller for Radio TAB. David, who is a keen form student and punter, has enjoyed a lifetime involvement in the racing media. His personal blog, ‘My Call’, appears exclusively on HRO.
She might have the looks but she doesn't have the time.
I've Got The Looks did not run 1:08.78 but still ran a race record in the Juanmo Stakes at Doomben on Saturday.
My prediction after investigation is that the time is close to 1:09.6 with a 34.9 first split and 34.7 second split.
Many were amazed when the time was posted. The track was immediately reassessed to a good 4.
It became a talking point that I've Got the Looks ran faster time that Hot Snitzel's 1:09.47 BTC Cup victory.
This is not so but Hot Snitzel's official time is on the money.

If you don't believe Sadler's Lake is a worthy Queensland Derby favourite after Saturday, you need to stop drinking at the races.
His performance was better than tradesmanlike.
A good looker with a fluent action, he makes his own luck and it's worth remembering the Derby has been the one and only gameplan all along.
Remember it's a 2200m Derby at Doomben this year not a 2400m slog at Eagle Farm.
We're still more than three weeks out but that $6.50 fixed price seems good value to me.

The Doomben 10,000 winner didn't start on Saturday ... well at Doomben, at least.
But see what your think of first-upper Lumosty in her ripping Flemington win. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
And don't forget Sacred Star and Trust In A Gust were at home in their boxes.
Boom 10,000 hopefuls Srikandi and Our Boy Malachi need a real push to reignite 10,000 favour after their BTC Cup performances.
The juveniles' Grand Final ... the J.J.Atkins ... is anybody's guess at this stage.
Bollinger also rans Sampeah and Single Gaze were warming to the task nicely though. Monitor them closely in the Sires Produce in a fortnight.
Ballet Suite was solid in the Princess but I fancy far more opposition for her in the Oaks in three weeks.

Hats off to the Brisbane Racing Club for the Doomben set up on the weekend.
It comes as no surprise with their hospitality trump Scott Steele at the helm.
He's come a long way since we hung out at Redcliffe trots as kids but he has earned his stripes along the way.
The key to his success is that he "gets it". He knows what racegoers want, young or old, because he has a track record in the hospitality business.
It's the same with BRC's Racing Manager Bart Sinclair. His long time involvement in the business means he "gets it" too.
Some race clubs fail by putting square pegs in round holes. BRC gets it right and the proof is in the pudding.

Sad to hear of Keith Birrer's passing last week.
A former jockey who rode in Bernborough's 10,000, Keith was a regular fixture at the track when bookies and punters were strong in supply and fair to say was never short of an opinion.
Condolences to his wife Noreen and son Stephen.
