Form assessed for a soft 5 with a possible upgrade.

RACE 1:

WISH COMES TRUE (1) was respectable in the Toowoomba Cup and Boss gives it a good run. Up in weight but this doesn’t look a hard race to win. VILANOVA (2) doesn’t win out of turn but back on a drier track today and fitter 3rd run back. Does run well at this Carnival. HVASSTAN (6) has caught the eye past 2 and distance now right. Rough chances 4 and 7.

RACE 2:

SOLICIT (1) has weight to carry but is a quality mare and bounced back to her best last start. Follows a good tempo and hard to beat. I’VE GOT THE LOOKS (2) has looked good in the Silk Stocking and Juanmo. Goes to 1350m first time but shouldn’t be a problem. SHES CLEAN (3) was sound in the Juanmo and appreciates 1350m. Rough chances 4, 6, 10 and 12.

RACE 3:

NITE ROCKER (8) was responsible for a terrific run in the BRC Sprint and positions well here. EXCELLANTES (4) also maps well and represents generous odds. DELECTATION (1) is a quality 3yo but seems rock bottom odds to me considering where it will land from the wide alley. Rough chances 2, 3, 7 and 10.

RACE 4:

HOPFGARTEN (4) was sound in the Doomben Cup and gets a good trip here. Runs well at the mile and runs well for D.Browne. IM IMPOSING (2) is a strong finisher and was ahead of HOPFGARTEN in the Cup. Mixes his distances successfully. STRAWBERRY BOY (3) will be the pacesetter and is consistent. Rough chances 5, 8 and 11.

RACE 5:

SADLERS LAKE (4) is a very progressive 3yo who will work across from the widest gate and should be too good again after his Rough Habit win. Keen. MASTER OF ARTS (10) arrives from Victoria and looks promising. Main danger. QUICK STRIKE (5) has the help of the rails gate and runs on well. Rough chances 1, 3, 7, 9 and 14.

RACE 6:

Like what I’ve seen of visiting Victorian PAYROLL (13) in three runs so far. Good alley and 1350m is more than suitable. COUNTERATTACK (2) ran well in the Bollinger, indicating this distance is a step in the right direction. WICKED INTENT (1) will take catching and was terrific in the Bollinger but 1350m?? Rough chances 8, 9, 11 and 16.

Race 7:

PLATINUM WITNESS (1) arrives with a strong NZ profile and I wouldn’t describe this as a superhot race. Keen. I think fellow Kiwi EXQUISITE JEWEL (6) can provide the quinella result with BOHEMIAN LILY (4) the best of the others. Plenty can’t win. Rough chance 12.

RACE 8:

SACRED STAR (6) is a crack NZ sprinter and is a gun fresh (3 from 6 first-up). International jockey Purton gives him a midfield trip and watch him charge late. BIG MONEY (5) is a great value chance. Went OK in the BTC Cup. KNOYDART (4) will be late finisher. Rough chances 1, 2, 7, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16.

Race 9:

Expect fillies TRAVESTON GIRL (13) and NAJOOM (14) to roll forward and control the pace and fight it out. Prefer the former primarily because of the better price. STAVIVA (10) ran a sneaky race a fortnight ago and blinkers on today with longer trip a help. Rough chances 1, 2, 3 4, 9, 11.

BEST BET: SADDLERS LAKE (race 5).

BEST EACHWAY: SACRED STAR (Race 8).

BEST ROUGHIE : EXCELLANTES (Race 3).

QUADRELLA: 1, 2, 8, 9, 11, 13 / 1, 4, 6, 12 / 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14 / 10, 13, 14.
