STRADBROKE DAY: DAVID FOWLER SELECTS ...
By David Fowler | Saturday, June 6, 2015
Form assessed for a good 4.
RACE 1:
INTO THE RED (3) blasted them in the Ascot a fortnight ago and I don't see a 2.5kg weight rise stopping him. Good pace generated will suit the fast finisher BYMONASHEE (9)'who provided the quinella result last time while WHISKEY ALLROUND (8) can improve with the rails gate. Happy to risk visiting Sydneysider KAEPERNICK. Rough chances 1, 2, 6, 7 and 12.
RACE 2:
Predicting a Sydney quinella with FLIPPANT (3) and HARLEM RIVER (6) set to fight this out. FLIPPANT was too quick for HARLEM RIVER at Scone and I can't see the tables being turned. OPINIONATED (11) is a good longshot and a must for the exotics. Rough chances 1, 2, 5, 8 and 15.
RACE 3:
STRAWBERRY BOY (1) is my best bet. Too quick and too powerful in The Lord Mayors Cup a fortnight ago and I see a similar scenario unveiling here. FRESPANOL produced a strong sectional in winning last week’s Spear Chief and will finish hard off a good tempo. LUCKY LAGO (11) is a chance again after a solid 2nd to Strawberry Boy although she never left the fence. Rough chances 3, 5 and 9.
RACE 4:
I considered this a two horse race but with Lumosty out, surely CATKINS (1) is a good thing. A quality mare, pitchforked in under the conditions and fitted up with two barrier trials. HAZARD (5) boasts good Melbourne and Adelaide form but she is not in the same class while TARLOSHAN (6) can run well fresh. Rough chances 4 and 9.
RACE 5:
SURE AND FAST (3) got too far back at Scone after winning the Provincial Championship at Randwick. Profiles well for this. I would have tipped GOOD PROJECT (6) after his eye catching run last Saturday but barrier 16 is a big hurdle to overcome. MISS COVER GIRL (11) might be suspect at a strong mile but will get a good run. Rough chances 5, 8, 13 and 16.
RACE 6:
PRESS STATEMENT (2) has done nothing wrong in 2 Sydney wins and I wouldn't suggest there is a world beater in this race that will stop him making the hat trick. BASSETT (4) comes off a debut 1100m win but utmost respect for trainer Moody sees him as the second pick. Appears a one out leader COUNTER ATTACK (1) appeals as the best of those who have been performing locally. Rough chances 4, 5, 8, 9, 10 and 11.
RACE 7:
WERTHER (1) is a Derby standout. The Eagle Farm Cup win is a great form pointer and the one alley gives him the chance to nearly boxseat. Another chance to SADDLERS LAKE (3) who was a little disappointing a fortnight ago while UPHAM (3) won that race and has to be considered again. Rough chances 4, 5, 9 and 11.
RACE 8:
LUMOSTY (17) will win the Stradbroke providing she can get reasonable cover from a half awkward gate. Corey Brown should ensure that. CHARLIE BOY (8) is the hardest to beat on his great 10,000 2nd while BOBAN, the 10,000 winner must be given a chance again. Rough chances 3, 5, 9, 11, 14 and 16.
RACE 9:
LETS MAKE A DEAL (4) doesn't boast a great strike rate but she has always performed well in high level staying company and comes into the race in-form. Secures a good run from her favourable gate. MORIARTY (1) is tough as teak and will give his all while INDEX LINKED (2) falls into the same category. Rough chances 3, 5, 6, 8, 10 and 12.
BEST BET: STRAWBERRY BOY (race 3).
BEST EACHWAY: INTO THE RED (race 1).
BEST ROUGHIE: OPINIONATED (race 2).
QUADRELLA: 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 11 / 1, 2, 3, 5 / 1, 8, 17 / 1, 2, 4, 10, 12.
