BAILEY STABLE SET FOR STRONG SEASON

The success of three lightly raced runners trained by Alan Bailey at Ipswich on Thursday provided more than just a treble for the stable. The wins of Teaattheritz, The Beast and Cornwall Park provided a clear indication of where the strength of the stable lies and how their season could get better and better for them as it goes along.
The three-year-old Teaattheritz was having her first run since making her debut seven months ago. The Beast was resuming after a nine month break from action. It was only the sixth start (and second win) for the four-year-old, while Cornwall Park was making it two from two after only having his first run late in his three-year-old season in June.
All lightly raced runners ... all brought along with more than just a touch of patience ... all winners.
There is nothing especially spectacular about that given Bailey’s superb record as a trainer. What is noteworthy is just how many of this category of runner Bailey has in his stable waiting to unleash during the coming months.
Trainer Alan Bailey: “Yeah, we’ve got a lot of young ones ... by that I mean young to race, lightly raced. We’ve got some nice young horses now. We’ve got a really good batch. Oh, we paid a lot of money for them and we have basically been working through them and these are the ones we wanted to keep, you know.
“We’d have about thirty of that calibre ... really lovely horses. We produced one at the coast last Saturday, that young one (Fantastic Force) ... it was his first run ... and another couple of young ones at home go really good, so we’ll just potter around with them and have a bit of fun.”
Fantastic Force had three official barrier trials over a period of seven months prior to making his winning debut, once again underlining the fact that patience can be worth its weight in gold in the training stakes.
Stable jockey Glen Colless, who rode all three of Bailey’s winners at Ipswich, echoed his boss’s sentiments.
Jockey Glen Colless: “Yeah, he (Alan) has got about that number (thirty) in waiting. The next twelve months is going to be a big year for him I think - even with the smaller team than he’s had before. It’s quality not quantity.”
