The New Zealand bred Werther, who finished second in both of his Group 1 races to date (the Australian Derby and the Queensland Derby) has been sold to Hong Kong interests for a reported seven figure deal.
The gelding, who until now has raced under the care of trainer Andrew Campbell (for four wins and six places from thirteen starts) will join the Gary Moore stable with ambitions of competing in next year’s Hong Kong Derby.
Werther, who is a Group 2 winner in both New Zealand and Australia, last saluted in the Queensland Cup at Doomben on May 30. A week later he had to settle for second best behind Magicool in the Queensland Derby, since which time the sales deal has been brokered by Magic Millions.
Werther is currently wintering at Washpool Lodge in Queensland before embarking on the next stage of his racing career.
