IPSW AUG 20 - TEAATTHERITZ STORMS HOME

By Graham Potter | Monday, August 24, 2009

Ipswich, August 20, 2009.
Track - Good 3. Rail - out 1.5m.
Maiden Handicap - 1350m. Time: 1-21.60.
1 Teaattheritz; 2 Morsecodian; 3 Heza Guru.

Teaattheritz scored an impressive first-up win, unwinding a long run in the straight and finishing with meaning to get up and snatch the result away from Morsecodian who had looked a likely winner with 100m left to run.

It was a eye-catching return to racing for the three-year-old who had not raced since making her debut back in January when finishing only 4.30 lengths behind the smart Funtantes, who has already gone on to win in Group 2 company.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Alan Bailey: “No nothing with wrong with her. She was just very immature when we gave her the first run in January. We only intended to give her one run for a bit of experience and then put her out.

“We have got a bit of an opinion of her. We think she might be an Oaks filly next year sort of thing. We had to start her somewhere, so we thought we’d bring her here today and start her up. Glen (Colless) says she needs a mile now already, you know.

“She is a lovely, beautiful, big filly. She’s got a lovely stride on her. She is a bit of a racehorse. She is a Thorn Park. Most of the Thorn Park’s are only small. She’s got a bit of size in it. That’s why we bought her. We had a good little Thorn Park. We sold him to Hong Kong, but he was only little. I said we’ll never buy another one like that ... he never grew an inch. So we bought this. We certainly went from the little ones to the big ones. She can hold her own in the hustle and bustle of a race for sure.”

Jockey Glen Colless: “We’ve always had a nice opinion of her, you know. She had one start last time in. She ran good when she didn’t know much about it. Today we sort of gave her a couple of trials leading up to this. She is filly ... I said to Alan (Bailey) ... she is a filly that wants 2000m now, you know.

“She just always given us the opinion that she’s wanted ground. She just doesn’t get on the bit in a race ... she’s off the bit ... that’s why I pulled out at the 500 just to try and put her into the race. I knew she wasn’t going to come quick but, once she balanced, she knuckled down, you know. Very nice filly.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Teaattheritz): 3.50 in to 2.80.
The winner was the favourite.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Trainer Mrs P. Arnold was fined $100 for presenting Messanbun to the enclosure with incorrect gear. An inquiry was adjourned into the reason for Choppard being presented to the enclosure with incorrect gear. A pre race veterinary examination of Heritage Shadow cleared the gelding to start.

Teaattheritz (G. Colless), Heritage Shadow (L. Rolls) and Spurned (A. Spinks) were slow to begin.
Choppard (S. Galloway) shifted in, making contact with Fair Rise (A. Pattillo) at the start. Glitter Galore (B. Hull), which was fractious in the barriers, jumped in the air at the start and then raced ungenerously for a short distance after the start.

Approaching the 1200m, Princess Tana (S. Drake) and Messanbun (C. Eaton) were tightened for room when racing to the inside of Teaattheritz (G. Colless), which was taken in by Heza Guru (B. Stewart). B. Stewart, rider of Heza Guru, was reprimanded.

B. El-Issa, rider of Zakato, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that at approximately the 1200m he permitted his mount to shift in, causing Heza Guru (B. Stewart) to be taken in on to Teaattheritz (G. Colless), which in turn was taken in on to Heritage Shadow (L. Rolls), which had to be checked and shift in, tightening Spurned (A. Spinks), which also had to be checked. B. El-Issa was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 25 August, and to expire at midnight, 3 September 2009.
