MY CALL - THE CAULFIELD GUINEAS WILL BE ANYTHING BUT A STROLL IN THE PARK FOR PRESS STATEMENT
By David Fowler | Tuesday, September 29, 2015
David Fowler is the principal thoroughbred caller for Radio TAB. David, who is a keen form student and punter, has enjoyed a lifetime involvement in the racing media. His personal blog, ‘My Call’, appears exclusively on HRO.
I'm more than happy to risk Press Statement in the Caulfield Guineas on Saturday week.
And I think the $3 fixed price is rock bottom value.
Sure, he looked professional in the Stan Fox at Rosehill on Saturday.
But it was a trouble free stroll against five opponents which will be in stark contrast to a hurly burly battle in an 18 horse line up going the other way
Even in the J J Atkins triumph in the winter he secured a trouble free run.
I'm happy with the Caulfield Guineas Prelude form line but even the Melburnians are taking a softly, softly approach this year in regards to a local Guineas victory.
I'll concede that two lengths covered nine runners in the Prelude but I saw enough to be encouraged the Guineas winner appeared there.
Runner-up Tulsa is crying out for the mile while pacesetter Dal Cielo was brave. And how can you knock winner Bon Aurum.
I might be wrong ... no surprise there ... but I'll risk the Press Statement formline.

Some would have them running in lanes!
I'm talking about first starters. The opportunity not to officially trial or have their jumpouts kept secret upset the chattering classes, many of my media colleagues included.
In fact I was left out in the cold in Monday's Radio TAB' s Press Room program when several suggested it was bordering on treason that some first starters has not been seen in the public forum!
They won the battle in Victoria with jumpouts now taped and available on the web. Other states have resisted the push.
Good decision in my book. Punters are important players on the punting wheel but owners deserve rights as well.
For crying out loud, keep some intrigue and mystery in the game.
As I said, some would have them running in lanes.

Alan Thomas ends a distinguished broadcasting career on Boxing Day at the Gold Coast.
I admire his versatility. He is multi-talented whether you're talking about the range of sports he has called or what media platform he has been put on to broadcast them.
A no nonsense race caller that punters developed a strong bond with over the last two decades.
His seamless transition into the real estate business has been carefully managed by himself and his delightful partner Caroline.
And to answer the question many have asked or are asking ...
No, I won't be including the Sky Racing broadcast in my portfolio post-Christmas.
Understandably, Sky wish to have their own presence in Queensland so I'll have a new colleague to work alongside in a few months.
