MY CALL - RARE WIN DIVIDEND AT SANTA ANITA
By David Fowler | Tuesday, October 6, 2015
David Fowler is the principal thoroughbred caller for Radio TAB. David, who is a keen form student and punter, has enjoyed a lifetime involvement in the racing media. His personal blog, ‘My Call’, appears exclusively on HRO.
Interesting UBET dividends in the third at Santa Anita on Sunday.
Strange way to start the blog but the win dividend of Corps De Ballet of $2450.80 is strange enough, don’t you think?
The win pools might tell the tale. The win pool of this race was $5733 compared to other races which held between $600 and a grand.
Obviously the lion’s share of that was placed on Sutton’s Smile which started at a dollar and every other runner’s win approximate blew out the door.
Manipulation? Only time will tell if “the best tote” corporates start bleating.

Great to see ex-RQ chairman Kevin Dixon and his wife Linda at Doomben races on the weekend.
Linda shares in the ownership of Shes A Foxy Lady who ran a handy race.
Dixon has handled his mid-year shock departure with style.
Core friends enjoyed their company on the weekend.
Many skirted a wide path.

I was too smart by half in the first race.
I pronounced the winner DEETERS in the call, incorrectly assuming it was of German origin (Dieters).
The dam of the winner is Automatic Slim so, of course, it’s pronounced DIE A TERS.
Cop it on the chin, Davey.

Josh Fleming is an outstanding appointment to replace the retiring Alan Thomas at Sky Racing.
Right age, 30, and a Queenslander through and through, he deserves the promotion to the top gig.
I look forward to working alongside of him as I now take the “veteran” status.
************************************************************************************************** I’m not too sure what path is being plotted with Buffering post Melbourne but let’s do something special for him.
The BRC are frontrunners in this sort of thing and a “day with Buffering”, photos, signatures, interviews seems tailormade.
The Moir Stakes triumph was a huge thrill for the state.
“Buff” usually has to do the hard yards and Friday’s win was no exception.
But it’s a winning team with Rob Heathcote’s training skill and canny management and Damian Browne’s affinity with the eight-year-old.
He deserves nothing less than a hero’s welcome on his return.
