MY CALL - AWAITING RQ'S BLUEPRINT FOR THE FUTURE
By David Fowler | Tuesday, November 17, 2015
David Fowler is the principal thoroughbred caller for Radio TAB. David, who is a keen form student and punter, has enjoyed a lifetime involvement in the racing media. His personal blog, ‘My Call’, appears exclusively on HRO.
Expect Racing Queensland's blueprint for the future to be released in a fortnight.
Time is getting tight as Christmas and New Year festivities loom large not to mention all the hoopla associated with the forthcoming Magic Millions.
The Tracking To Sustainability paper is now in Government hands and that's where it could hit a hurdle.
Marginal seat holders may resist harsh recommendations for their electorate.
Any miffed polices will generate a delay in its release to the industry.
Regardless of the release, it's cricket score odds that the plan will be introduced in January as mooted.
In fact, this writer wouldn't be surprised that lock, stock and barrel reform doesn't start before the new financial year.

The report won't be pretty reading.
And despite the three codes pointing fingers at each other, the pain will be across the board.
Thoroughbreds won't be spared.
And my mail is there is significant role shifting inside the Deagon bunker to execute the recommendations.

One more prediction.
Don't expect to shake the hand of a new Racing Queensland board member before 2016.

I was born when Tony Erhart was riding as a teenager.
I recently turned 52 and Tony Erhart is still riding.
It's hard to imagine Erhart's first feature win was a deadheat victory on Isaacson in the 1964 Ipswich Cup.
What an epic victory it would have been had Top Tone lasted rather than beaten a nose by Steel Zip in Saturdays Keith Boud.
But let's not underplay the Steel Zip, Jeff Lloyd, Pat Duff story. The eight-year-olds resurgence has been remarkable.
The nail biting finish was a wonderful start to the Summer Carnival.

I lost my boss and a good friend with Steve Cairns unexpected passing on the weekend.
No goodbyes. Vanished without a trace, so to speak, at 53 years.
Cairns was a gun appointment by Tatts. He knew radio and he knew racing.
He will be replaced but his shoes will be impossible to fill.
