DOOMBEN, NOVEMBER 21: DAVID FOWLER SELECTS ...
By David Fowler | Saturday, November 21, 2015
Please note form assessed before the Saturday 7.30am Saturday final scratchings deadline. Please check final fields for any changes on the day. Form assessed for a good 3 (perfect surface).
Race 1:
Drab affair to start the day. PERPLEXITY (1) carries the same weight for a track and trip win here a fortnight ago. Sure, he got away with grand larceny but will this small field produce any stronger tempo? I doubt it. HIGHLY GENTLE (4) and COL N LIL (3) to provide the trifecta result. Rough chance 5.
Race 2:
First starter THE LAST KISS (14) has been a street corner tip since the fields were released and the money is there to back it up. Strikes a steady field which strengthens the case for her to be selected. GAME OF DREAMS (4) is also on debut but showed good speed in a GC trial win. Surprised if he doesn't give the favourite a run for her money. Place chance to MISHANI EL LOBO (7) with speed, a good gate and Colless booked. Rough chances 11 and 12.
Race 3:
Interesting sprint contest. MR FAVULOUS (2) is ideally drawn first-up to follow leader ROCKY KING (1) and trialled ultra well in Toowoomba recently. ROCKY KING (1) certainly will lead for a long way. TISANI TOMSO (9) is fit and in form but this is a better calibre of horse he is opposed to today. Rough chances 6 and 11.
Race 4:
Sydney visitor OREILLYS REVENGE (1) will bounce well from the rails gate and race handy with blinkers on. Solid here track and trip a fortnight ago and I consider his CV as strong as the morning line favourite LORD COCONUTS (9) who will run well. ELEMENT OF CHANCE (6) is an above-average former North Queenslander who can make an impression. Rough chances 2, 10, 12 and 13.
Race 5:
IN HIS STRIDE (2) got his act together here at 1200m a fortnight ago and no dramas with the 1350m from a good gate where he is bound to boxseat. MAN OF HIS WORD (1) "flew" in a track and trip win 3 weeks ago but has 3.5kg more this time. HESITATION (10) ran well in that race off a poor gate but rails alley is a great plus to her prospects. Rough chances 3, 5, 6, 7 and 13.
Race 6:
I consider there is little between Sydney visitors FINE MIST (4) and FRILL SEEKING (11) as both race forward and are above-average. They could easily control this race. GOLDEN FALLS (2) is first up and extra smart, securing a soft passage off the rails but can she sprint swiftly enough to nail the other pair? Rough chances 1, 3, 5 and 6.
Race 7:
Good race. BLUE LION (9) was sharp in a track and trip win 3 weeks ago and should be afforded all the favours from the good gate. Granted, a harder race but I think there is more scope to this lightly-raced 7yo than we have seen so far. BEWHATYOUWANNABE (3) was good first up and goes well at the Doomben mile. JUMBO PRINCE (1) has an awkward gate and 59kg but is too good to totally dismiss. Rough chances 5, 7, 8, 13 and 14.
Race 8:
Wide open and go wide in Quadrella . PUFFS GIRL (13) romped home first up in Toowoomba and ran time, suggesting she might have taken a step or two forward after her spell. BRITAILA KATE (9) didn't have much luck first up and goes well second up. Rails alley and good tempo will assist her. SHADOW FORCE (1) is a tough bush sprinter worth considering. Rough chances 2, 5, 7, 11, 14 and 20.
BEST BET: THE LAST KISS (race 2).
BEST EACHWAY: OREILLYS REVENGE (race 4).
BEST ROUGHIE: PUFFS GIRL (race 8).
QUADRELLA: 1, 2, 10 / 1, 2, 4, 11 / 1, 3, 9 / 1, 5, 9, 11, 13, 14, 20.
