MY CALL - A DISGUSTING STATE OF AFFAIRS
By David Fowler | Tuesday, November 24, 2015
David Fowler is the principal thoroughbred caller for Radio TAB. David, who is a keen form student and punter, has enjoyed a lifetime involvement in the racing media. His personal blog, ‘My Call’, appears exclusively on HRO.
Positive swabs and irregularities to cobalt are popping up too much.
Too much to consider that they are all of a sinister nature.
Are we to believe all of these trainers are guilty of administering cobalt to improve their horse’s performance?
Give me a spell.
When will someone in administration be brave enough to call a halt to this “guilty until proven innocent” mindset?
So many of these recent cases involve battling or hobby trainers.
And it doesn’t seem to matter now what state or what code.
The thresholds were clearly announced earlier in the year and those at the top still lamely suggest those with high readings are deliberately flouting the law.
How many innocent people will be charged and their reputations burned before sanity prevails?
In my opinion it’s a disgusting state of affairs.

I fear a storm brewing over the new whip rules to be introduced next Tuesday.
Last weekend’s various gatherings of jockeys made it clear there needs to be more consultation.
Racing Australia’s curt response in the negative would not have been well received.
It’s a difficult topic but the parties drifting apart is a dangerous sign.

Buffering must surely be the best sprinter produced in Queensland racing history.
His sixth Group One win at Ascot on the weekend has generated conversation on the best horses to come out of the Sunshine State.
The honour roll is impressive but too long to list yet the elite seem to be in the mile to middle distance category.
Any sprinter mentioned wouldn’t rate within cooee of Buffering.

The “forumites” can be tough markers.
Racecaller Greg Miles is the latest in their sights.
Since his alleged Caulfield Cup mishap, every single call seems to be micro-analysed.
We expect a lot from a profession that is not a perfect science.
And Greg is not alone as a target in the criticism that flows spewed from social media.
Don’t get me wrong, everyone is entitled to an opinion but when the basis of their argument is flawed is then I get cranky.
A stablehand described one of my calls as a “disgrace” on the weekend.
As a non-twitterer, it was relayed to me by a close friend.
His facts were totally incorrect but that doesn’t stop the poison seeping out.
Hope he enjoys his overseas holiday.
Bon voyage. See you on your return.
