MY CALL - STANDBY FOR THE BIG ANNOUNCEMENT
By David Fowler | Tuesday, March 8, 2016
David Fowler is the principal thoroughbred caller for Radio TAB. David, who is a keen form student and punter, has enjoyed a lifetime involvement in the racing media. His personal blog, ‘My Call’, appears exclusively on HRO.
The finger is on the button to announce the interim Queensland Racing Board.
The successful applicants have been advised and a release could be made by week's end.
This will include an independent chair and three industry representatives, one for each code.
"The securing of this chair is actually a coup for this Government," a George Street insider told me.
The final composition of the commercial board will also include three independent members who have no direct involvement in racing yet a previous association with the industry will not preclude them.
Of course, the term "interim" is the key as its implementation depends on the successful passing of legislation of the Queensland Racing Integrity Bill.

As I outlined last week that Bill will ultimately boil down to a numbers game.
And those numbers became even more volatile for the Government with Rob Pyne's resignation to the crossbench on Monday.
Labor and the LNP now level peg on 42 seats with four crossbenchers and independent Peter Wellington.
Mr Pyne can expect a few phone calls very soon.

Racing Queensland administration generally don't like my suggestions to improve the product as they've generally worked it out first.
But here goes.
If you're going to be fair dinkum about a Trainer’s Challenge During the Carnival make it on ALL races, not just the Listed or Group affairs.
Forget all this nonsense about handicaps and the like. Level start, all races.
Does RQ realise they open themselves to criticism by restricting it to Listed and Group races which are the domain of the big interstate stables?
What a great promotional result if a local trainer took the lion’s share of points on the day.
Offering the promotion on all races could also enable Ubet to be a trendsetter and offer a Trainers Challenge betting market.
Any promotion's success is based on its awareness.
Simply handing over money to Chris Waller or Peter Snowden is not the way to do it.
Over to you RQ.

I'm hearing rumblings between the Toowoomba club and Racing Queensland concerning Weetwood Day next month.
Apparently it revolves around the use of the RQ's big screens for the club’s biggest day of the year.
I would hope it gets sorted out swiftly because the publicity wouldn't be good for one of the parties.
