WINNO'S WINNERS (1): RANDWICK, APRIL 9
By Darren Winningham | Friday, April 8, 2016
WEEK 2 OF WINNO’S TIPS: (*Winno tipped half the card on Day 1 of the Championships at Randwick last week. His winners were El Divino (who dead-heated at an SP $4.60); Libran ($2.25), Clearly Innocent ($5.50), Yankee Rose ($3.80) and Winx ($1.90).
As this form assessment was made one day prior to raceday, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day.
Punters should get some luck at Randwick. The track should be SOFT come race day giving the mud larks a distinct advantage. The rail is out 6 metres in the home straight and 3 metres for the rest of the course. After a massive day of racing last weekend it appears the track has chopped up.
I am tipping leaders and on pace runners having a big advantage with horses coming from behind to struggle making any ground in the straight and final stages.

Race 1. Fernhill Handicap – Listed:
Some good quality 2 year olds running around here.
Prized Icon (1) with the blinkers back on should run on the pace and be hard to beat. Personally I like the looks of Gravitate (8) from the Snowden yard as a big improver.
Selections: 1-8-4-5.

Race 2. South Pacific Classic:
Kimberley Star from the Gai Waterhouse got my attention early in the week and I managed to snavel $13. Since then there has been a flood of money and it is into $6.50. It is an average race with many chances.
Selections: 3-2-5-12 and 15 a rough chance.

Race 3. Provincial Championships Final:
This series has been a great initiative across the State.
Be warned betting in the race.
The form is hard to line up.
Kris Lees has 9 of the nominated 19 runners - a big effort! Hetty Heights (11) has done well and my phone has been buzzing all week with people tipping it to me.
Selections: 11-10-9 rough chances for the 2 and 3.
*******************************************************************************************************
Race 4. Percy Skye Stakes (Group 3):
Tough race - maybe a lottery. Najmaat from the Hayes/Dabernig stable may be a smart one to follow.
Selections: 7-6-1-9 rough chance 11.
*******************************************************************************************************
Race 5. Arrowfield 3 year old Sprint (Group 2):
Japonisme from the Chris Waller stable looks the one to beat. The other form is a little hard to analyse and the set weights may out the others. Look for Ghisoni to take some running down if she gets left alone in front.
Selections: 1-11-12-5 and rough chance to 6 & 7.
********************************************************************************************************
Race 6. James Boag’s Australian Oaks (Group 1):
The first of the Group 1 races.
Sofia Rosa (7) from the New Zealand yard of Stephen Marsh to pip Jameka (1) trained by the boom trainer Ciaron Maher.
Selections: 7-1-9-13
*******************************************************************************************************
Race 7. Schweppes Sydney Cup (Group 1):
Gallante (7) from the Robert Hickmott stable looks a solid chance, especially if Café Society (8) sets a solid pace out in front as it has done the last few starts. Would love to see Libran (4) run well for Brenton Avdulla.
Selections: 7-4-8-3-1.
******************************************************************************************************
Race 8. The Coolmore Stakes (Group 1):
A great Group 1 field. Azkadellia (3) from the Ciaron Maher stable looks a solid chance. Would be great to see Ciaron get a Group 1 winner in Sydney over the Championships. Look for an improvement with Damian Oliver riding the horse this start. Lady Le Fay (13) should improve – one to watch.
Selections 3-13-12-6 and a rough chance to 17 now it has snuck into the field.
*******************************************************************************************************
Race 9. Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Group 1):
An amazing race. I thought Lucia Valentina (11) has amazing form on wet tracks but may just get too far back. It has had a recent trial at Newcastle to freshen it up for the race. Not sure if there will be much pace in the race.
So I have come back to the war horse Criterion (1) and Tommy Berry to serve it up to the in-form Preferment (2). Hugh Bowman could have a day to remember if he can get Preferment home. The United States (5) is sure to run well.
Selections 2-1-5-12-10.
********************************************************************************************************
Race 10. Sapphire Stakes (Group 2):
Why do they make the last race of the day so hard each week?
Maybe you will need to go wide here to get the Quaddie and Treble up.
No More Tears (15), the first reserve, from the Stephen Marsh stable could see it have a memorable day on the last day of the Championships. Vezalay hasn’t much form on wet tracks but has been knocking on the door and should be ridden forward.
Maybe a swooper may blow us all out in the end if the track chops up and something comes wide. If that is the case look for Sultry Feeling (4), Brook Road (8) and Cradle Me (6) to be flying home at the end.
Selections 15-10-4-8-6.
********************************************************************************************************
Quaddie (races 7,8,9,10): 4,7,8 / 3,6,12,13 / 1,2,5 / 4,6,8,10,15 - cost $180 for $1. Cheap Quaddie (races 7,8,9,10): 4,7 / 3, 12, 13/ 1, 2 / 4,10,15 - cost $36 for $1.
For NSW Punters the Big 6 is on races 5 to 10: 1, 11/ 1, 7/ 4, 7/ 3, 13/ 1, 2 /4, 8, 10 - cost $96 for $1.
Good Punting and Good Luck
