EF AUG 26 - SHUFFLE THE CASH IN THE POUND SEATS
By Graham Potter | Friday, August 28, 2009
Eagle Farm, August 26, 2009. Track - Good 3. Rail - out 10m. Class 6 Plate (Set Weights) - 1800m. Time: 1-48.70. 1 Shuffle The Cash; 2 Beartracker; 3 Flawless Choice.
The William Pholi trained Shuffle The Cash proved too strong for his rivals to land his sixth win from nineteen starts. Jockey Stathi Katsisdis gave the grey gelding his head halfway up the home straight and the five-year-old responded in telling fashion to shoot down the opposition with a determined finishing effort which brought him due reward after having had to settle for a succession of runner-up finishes in recent times.
WINNER FEEDBACK: Jockey Stathi Katsidis: “They probably would have liked him to be a bit closer. They went fairly hard and once I was able to follow Beartracker, which was Owen Turpin’s mount, I was happy being behind that horse. I thought it was the hardest to beat in the race.
“He was certainly due for a win. He is the sort of horse that needs a lot of luck. Everything sort of went right today, although we did have to make a bit of a long run on him, but he was able to sustain it. I pretty much pulled him out and let him run his own race. Because they went along at a reasonable clip it made it pretty easy for him to win from back there.”
PRICE FLUCTUATIONS: Winner (ShuffleThe Cash): 2.30 out to 2.35. The winner was the favourite.
STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT: As L. Cassidy was to be overweight on Grungle, A. Spinks was substituted as the rider of that horse. L. Cassidy was fined the sum of $100. Viking Eagle was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon when the horse had a minor stable mishap and the horse was cleared to race. No Technique (M. Hughes) and Three Tenors (S. Apthorpe) were slow to begin.
Leaving the 500m, Beartracker (O. Turpin) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of The Cavern Club (M. Speers), which shifted out slightly. M. Speers, rider of The Cavern Club, was cautioned and advised to ensure he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground. Passing the 200m, Viking Eagle (M. Hellyer) was cramped for room by Under Construction (J. Byrne) when that horse shifted in and away from Flawless Choice (D. Sparks). A post race veterinary examination of Cap Riviera failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
