MY CALL - A TASTE OF THINGS TO COME
By David Fowler | Tuesday, May 3, 2016
David Fowler is the principal thoroughbred caller for Radio TAB. David, who is a keen form student and punter, has enjoyed a lifetime involvement in the racing media. His personal blog, ‘My Call’, appears exclusively on HRO.
There were two extraordinary performances last Saturday on a day rich for future viewing.
Plenty were impressive, as usual some were unlucky but there were two that I'd label extraordinary.
And I'm happy to follow them to the end of the earth in their respective campaigns.
Let's start with Zebulon winning first-up at MORPHETTVILLE Parks in Adelaide.
First-up in nearly 15 months following a tendon injury is a tough ask in itself but no-one passed that on to Zebulon.
He travelled, travelled like a twos on chance, and once Harry Coffey hit that proverbial "go" button he tore past some pretty handy types.
Queensland Guineas bound Rageese looked the same half an hour earlier except Zebulon ran nearly a second and a half quicker.
Campaign plans were uncertain before the race and probably still are after the romp.
Adelaide and Brisbane feature races are being touted in the media but nothing seems set in concrete.
Wherever he goes, back him next start. He will win again.

So will Tiyatrolani.
She demolished what was considered a smart juvenile line-up at Doomben after a whitewash at Ipswich.
At least we can save up for her as she will start in the Champagne Classic on Saturday week.
Brilliant barrier manners, a relaxed mid race attitude and a sharp turn of home straight acceleration are the aces up her sleeve to be a major Carnival player.
Start putting it away for the Classic.

Victory Stakes winner Fell swoop is beatable but bet against him at your peril.
I've seen enough of this horse to know he tries his guts out. More often than not defeat is not an option.
It's wasn't a glamorous performance in the Group 2 but he gets the job done which is all you need.
Artlee ran a booming third in the same race considering there wasn't much in his favour.
I'm certain he will be a key player in the next few weeks.

And Queenslanders can be well satisfied that the Desleigh Forster trio of three-year-olds will keep us right in the loop in that department.
Cylinder Beach and I'm Belucci will target the Derby while Too Good To Refuse's smart turn of speed will be utilized in short features. Maybe even a Stradbroke.
Michael Cahill is a modest jockey and economical with words. His post race comments on Cylinder Beach was the best free tip you will get anywhere.

I also copped a free tip on my Monday morning Press Room program on Radio TAB this week.
The punters clearly don't want to hear about racing politics week in and week out.
I was swamped with texts and tweets to the effect when I brought up an issue with the Melbourne Racing Club.
So today's column is politics free.
Sustaining the abstinence is another matter!

Don't be surprised if a controversial former racecaller bobs up sooner or later.
By the way, he has my full support.
Until next week.
