WINNO'S WINNERS: DOOMBEN, MAY 14
By Darren Winningham | Thursday, May 12, 2016
UBET BTC CUP DAY
Well last week WINNO’s WINNERS was in great form tipping Luke Dittman at $35 to win the jockeys challenge at the Gold Coast and Brenton Avdulla in Rosehill – a tidy $63 to $1 if you had them all up.
Consistent results across both meetings culminating with the last race trifecta at the Gold Coast that paid around $700. News this week is that Sam Clipperton, amongst other jockeys will be venturing north to the Queensland Racing Winter Racing Carnival, to steal some glory in the big races.
In the last three Carnivals I don’t recall Sam coming to Brisbane so I will be on the lookout for a brief catch up with him if his time permits.
Last week NSW horses dominated the Gold Coast program with six (6) winners – I did claim Matthew Dunn as a NSW trainer!
So this week it is up to the local Queensland trainers to get amongst the winners!
NB: As this form assessment was made prior to raceday, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day.

Race 1
Last week I had Divine Centuri (3) on top at the Gold Coast until it drew barrier 20 and was scratched. It should be hard to beat this week – with Ryan Wiggins retaining the ride. Secret Saga (2) ran well first up and has Blake Shinn taking over the ride this week. I think this is a great quinella to start off the day. I am looking forward to an improved performance from Blue Desert Moon (4) after a recent barrier trial win at Toowoomba.
Selections: 3-2-6-4. Rough chance the 1

Race 2
The race has been decimated with scratchings. Another Whiskey (2) has been in good form. I like the runs of Sammi Jain (13) in the two runs from a spell; it may be the improver in the race and has a 3 kilogram allowance for apprentice jockey Chris Dell. Lawrie Mayfield-Smith and Dell have been lethal in recent weeks with winners – maybe their luck may continue here? Lady Jetsetter (7) only knows how to run – and that is fast and could be hard to run down. The visitor, Freeze the Charges (15) from Sydney and Jason Coyle stables may lead them all.
Selections: 2-13-7-4. Rough chance 15

Race 3
Elegant Composure (7) has yet to be beaten in her six career starts. Stepping up in grade here but looks a solid chance – trainer Chris Anderson has found a nice type here. Gotyacovered (4) from the Kelso Wood yards surprised everyone with an amazing first up effort. In the same race two weeks ago Beckham (12) led and battled on well to be beaten less than a length.
Selections: 7-4-12-9. Rough chance the 10

Race 4 - 2016 - Japan Racing Association (JRA) Cup (Group 3)
This could be an interesting race with the David Vandyke and the Waratah Thoroughbreds Syndicate team holding the key to the race. Blake Spriggs has a wonderful affiliation with Sir John Hackwood (3) and has stayed loyal – but has he chosen the right horse? I liked the first-up effort of the stable mate Astronomos (10). It was pretty good and if there is speed on could be coming home hard. The visitor from the strong Darren Weir stable in Melbourne, Real Love (6), will be sure to be in the mix as well.
Selections: 10-3-6-4. Rough chance 7.
*******************************************************************************************************
Race 5 – Moet and Chandon Champagne Classic (Group 2)
Nikitas (1) is resuming from a spell after a gallant second to Capitalist in the Magic Millions. Kelso Wood’s stable has been on fire in recent weeks – will it continue in this Group race? Toyatrolani (11) has won both starts and has been impressive and should give a bold sight from barrier one. Dreams Aplenty (7) was unlucky last start in Toowoomba and is sure to be improved over the 1200m – trained by John Zielke who continues to dominate with his two years olds in Brisbane. ` Selections: 11-1-7-4. Rough chance 10

Race 6 – Singapore Turf Club Trophy (Listed Race)
I just noticed who the sponsors are of the race. If you ever get a chance to travel to Singapore make sure you get along to the races there it is a great track and great atmosphere – one that any racing enthusiast should experience. Now for the tips. I have been unlucky the last few weeks when I have tipped these two horses – Lordag (8) and Allknight Saint (11) so I am going to back up again and see if I can get a result. I think you can back either of them each way and get a great result. Jumbo Prince (3) ran an honest race last week at the Gold Coast whilst Bewhatyouwannabe (2) and Heart of a Warrior (12) have been consistent in their recent runs.
Selections: (8-11)-12-2. Rough chances 3 and 14.

Race 7- UBET 2016 BTC CUP (Group 1)
Good quality field assembled for this race this year. This race with the exception of Black Caviar and Apache Cat always seems to throw up a bad result for punters – so be warned! Chris Waller has many chances in the race. Delectation (1) has won a recent barrier trial but has not fared well with the barrier draw getting gate 12. Japonisme (11) has drawn well and trialled well recently at Randwick in preparation for this assignment. Counterattack (12) is another from the Waller stable who is a real war horse and gives his all every start. Fell Swoop (2) was impressive in the Victory Stakes two weeks ago and will be fitter for the run. The two representatives from the Peter and Paul Snowden stables, Dothraki (4) and Charlie Boy (7) both from the Dynamic Syndications people are sure to run well. Snowden always seems to get his best out of his team over the Brisbane Carnival. My heart says to tip Dothraki and Delectation but I will stay with the early favourite that has had good support since the markets have opened.
Selections: 11-4-1-7. Rough chances 2 and 12.

Race 8 – Mittys Rough Habit Plate (Group 3)
Cylinder Beach (2) ran an amazing race first up from the Desleigh Foster team – and what a great training effort it was to get the horse ready for a first-up 1600m win – this week the blinkers come off. Tap This (14) was checked and had no luck in the same race won by Cylinder Beach. Macintosh (6) was impressive leading all the way at Hawkesbury last start and may just get out in front and run them into the ground again. Shotacross The Bow (5) is a promising type but has had no luck in recent runs. Chances to Eagle Way (3) and the maiden Kuttamurra Al (12).
Selections 14-6-2-5 with rough chance 3 and 12.

Jockey Challenge this week – either of the two Blakes’ – Blake Shinn or Blake Spriggs but watch out for Glen Colless who could be massive odds. I am!
