WINNO'S WINNERS: DOOMBEN, MAY 28
By Darren Winningham | Friday, May 27, 2016
As this form assessment was made prior to raceday, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day.
Rail is out 4m the entire course this week. They all seemed to have equal chances last week with the rail out 2m – let’s hope the track plays just as good this week.
Great racing this week as well – the time honoured Doomben 10,000 sees the all-conquering Ciaron Maher return looking for Group 1 success after his wonderful mare Srikandi won the Stradbroke last year.
This year he is represented by Azkadellia and looks a great chance in the 10,000 and if it gets some luck could be hard to beat in the Stradbroke in two weeks. Anticipation is rife amongst the members and public for the return to Eagle Farm next week for Oaks Day – could be a massive occasion – hope to see you all there!
But first things first ...

Race 1
Looks like a NSW winner to start the day off! Fine Mist (5) from the Paul Murray stable at Kembla Grange looks a good chance and has a great second up record. Saluter (1) trained by Robert Heathcote will lead in this race and if it gets away with some cheap sectionals in front will probably be the hardest to beat. Not too sure how to assess Slots (7) in this race but look for an improved run. Sony Legend (10) improved last start and won well – could be another one to look out for.
Selections: 5-1-10-9. Rough chance 7.

Race 2 – Suez Queensland Day Stakes (Listed Race)
The Toby Edmonds stable didn’t have much luck at Ipswich on Wednesday. There are represented here with Always Sacred (4) who has drawn well and ran well last start in the Gold Coast Guineas. Barood (5) was unlucky last start at Scone and was badly checked in the straight – I think I tipped it that day as well and I am sure to be in the finish. Mogador (2) has blinkers on and is the class runner of the field – if he can put it all together on the day he could decimate this field. Roeinda (10) was also held up as Scone last run. I see that Zac Purton is over from Hong Kong and is riding the Tony Gollan trained Kamacite (7) that really has been impressive at all four career runs.
Selections: 4-5-2-10. Rough chance 7
******************************************************************************************************
Race 3 – Glenlogan Park Stakes (Group 3)
Ghisoni (8) ran an amazing race in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic. Has been freshened and has had a recent barrier trial. Amicus (1) has had two recent barrier trials and ran a good second to Kaepernick that has come out and won impressively at Scone two weeks ago. Take you pick for your exotics for the rest of the placings. These two mares are sure to bring some excitement to the Carnival this week and the next time they meet.
Selections: 8-1-2-9
*******************************************************************************************************
Race 4 – Channel Seven Premier’s Cup (Group 3)
I wonder if the Premier Anna Palaszczuk will be at the races to present the trophy! I was taken by the run of Junoob (1) the other week at Doomben in the race that was won by Real Love (4) and they are sure to fight the finish out here again. The local horses Honey Toast (8) has been running well, whilst Rudy (2) returned to form with a devastating finish two weeks ago to dead heat with Jumbo Prince. Wow what a race!
Selections: 1-4-8-2
******************************************************************************************************
Race 5 – Mitavite BRC Sires’ Produce Plate (Group 2)
A real tough race to start the quadrella. Great to see Bobby El-Issa back in Queensland riding in this race. I see Royal Tithe (13) has drawn badly here – but it was impressive winning at the Gold Coast a few weeks ago. Souchez (2) and Attention (3) both ran well in Champagne Classic 2 weeks ago and both should have a big say. Oink (4) has not fared well again with the barrier draw but could be the one coming home late. The query runners here are Cadogan (8), who won last start at Warwick Farm, and Sylpheed (14) from the Gai Waterhouse stables who had an unlucky run at Morphettville last start. ` Selections: 2-3-13-14. Rough chances 4 & 8
*******************************************************************************************************
Race 6 – Lord Mayors Cup 2016 (Group 3)
One thing is for sure Graham Quirk the Lord Mayor will be here to present the trophies – he loves his horse racing! I am a bit worried about this race as my two top selections get a little way back and will need some luck but both should be flying down the outside late. Amovatio (1) and Mighty Lucky (6) are both known for their flashy finishes – will they get any luck here to motor home late over the leaders? Worthy Cause (4) and Hopfgarten (7) should be both handy and may be hard to hold out if the back markers get no luck here. Jumbo Prince (3) has a horrible barrier but has just struck some good recent form.
Selections: 1-6-7-4. Rough chances 3 & 9
*******************************************************************************************************
Race 7 – 2016 James Boag’s Premium Doomben 10,000 (Group 1)
This race has a long list of great winners – Falvelon, Apache Cat, Takeover Target, Chief De Beers, just to name a few. Azkadellia (7) looks well placed here, but has drawn wide. Dothraki (3) was gallant in defeat in the BTC Cup. Hooked (4) always runs boldly first up from a spell. Delectation (1) and Fell Swoop (2) ran great races in the BTC Cup as well. Then there is the impressive three year old Divine Centuri (10) that has been in great form of late – is up in grade but may just test them all. Ryan Wiggins deserves a change in luck after my Bulldogs thrashed his Roosters last week in the NRL!
Selections: 3-7-2-1. Rough chances 4 & 10
******************************************************************************************************
Race 8 – 2016 Grand Prix Stakes (Group 3)
You would have to agree that Mackintosh (4) was super impressive in its first start in Brisbane and could be the rising star of the 2016 Brisbane Winter Carnival – big call but keep your eye on this horse in the Spring! Howard Be Thy Name (1) won the South Australian Derby (Group1) in great style last start and is back in distance here. Brad Rawiller will probably stalk the favourite here and have one final shot at it in the last 150 metres of the race. Cylinder Beach (2) is a promising stayer and probably a good choice for trifecta punters. I have a watch on Harvard (14) that won its last start as a maiden on the Geelong Synthetic track and is from the astute Ciaron Maher stables.
Selections 4-1-2-10 with rough chance 14

Well as it is State of Origin week I am tipping a whitewash at Doomben this week with the NSW trainers to dominate. As for State of Origin I am tipping a NSW Blues win – let’s go with a score line of NSW 20 – QLD 16 in the opening match in Sydney on Wednesday night.

Jockeys Challenge this week
This week it looks like it could be all one way traffic at Doomben – Blake Shinn comes off a winning treble at Canterbury on Wednesday and he is my tip this week.
