By Hong Kong Jockey Club | Wednesday, June 1, 2016
The Hong Kong Jockey Club announced that with effect from the Happy Valley race meeting on Wednesday, 1 June (today), live coverage of its races will be available through the distribution platform of Australia’s Racing.com.
Racing.com broadcasts on free-to-air television reaching more than 95 percent of Australian homes, online, and via the subscription-based Foxtel service.
“This development is a win for the overseas distribution of Hong Kong racing and will enable the growth of our commingling business,” said Mr. Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, the Club’s Chief Executive Officer.
“Australians will know on which channel they can find Hong Kong’s exciting racing. The amount of coverage Racing.com will provide offers customers more information and expert opinions in the crucial minutes before a race.”
“On a race-to-race basis, the pools in Hong Kong are the largest in the world, and the exotic wagering opportunities presented by our multi-horse combination bets, such as the quinella, quinella place (swinger) and tierce (trifecta) bet types, are an immediately attractive option for customers,” added Mr. Richard Cheung, Executive Director, Customer and Marketing.
“We believe this cooperation will benefit our existing partner Tabcorp and racing in Australia overall via our commingled pari-mutuel pools.”
Australian customers have commingled to Hong Kong’s massive tote pools through Tabcorp since October 2014 for those in the state of Victoria and October 2015 for those in New South Wales.
Coverage of Hong Kong races remains available through Sky Racing Channel.
This is the second major international broadcasting deal struck by the Club with an overseas broadcast partner.
Hong Kong racing appears on the American network TVG, which is available in more than 30 million U.S. households.
