WINNO'S WINNERS - STRADBROKE DAY - EAGLE FARM

By Darren Winningham | Friday, June 10, 2016

**As this form assessment was made prior to raceday, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day.

Well here we go again!

After last week’s false start we are finally back at Eagle Farm – the first time in two years. I have been fortunate to attend Breakfast with the Stars and the Stradbroke Barrier draw this week, each time taking opportunity to have a closer look at the track. It seems to be drying well since the deluge last weekend and it was surprising yesterday to hear the course curator contemplating putting 5mm of irrigation on the track as it was draining and drying so well.

I am tipping a dead track for the meeting on Saturday that should give every runner, owner and trainer and fair chance to win!

Now the big question that I cannot answer is ... how will the track play????

**************************************************************************************************

Race 1 – James Boag’s Premium Lancaster Stakes (Listed Race)

A tough 2 year old race to start the ten race program. Pick a number and you may be a winner here!

Invincibella (13) has drawn well and has flashed home at each of its last two starts at Canterbury and is trained by Chris Waller. I am thinking on the larger Eagle Farm track and long straight and drawn nicely it could be the one to beat here. My Country (9) from the Snowden yard won last start and has been heavily backed in pre post markets firming from $12 to $7.50 – you know what they say where there is smoke there maybe fire!

Royal Tithe (1) from the John Zielke team was caught wide last start and is back in grade here – Zielke has had a wonderful season with his two year olds. The team Godolphin runners Chipanda (3) and Nonpariel (10) are not without some hope as well.

A big watch on the Jenny Graham Miss Amajardan (4) as well. Has drawn badly here but was sent out favourite last start at Scone and had no luck – has the addition of a tongue tie and Zac Purton this start.

Selections: 13-1-9-10 rough chances 3 & 4.

*************************************************************************************************

Race 2 – Radio TAB The Wayne Wilson Mile (Listed Race)

I tipped Amovatio (2) last start and it just got too far back at Doomben. Volkstok ‘n’ barrell (1) is the class runner here and is coming back in distance. Hopfgarten (4) from the Rob Heathcote yard has had no luck again this week with the barrier draw drawing 18. Jockey Damian Browne may need a GPS from out there to find the rail.

I am a fan of the run last start of Pajaro (11) and Worthy Cause (5) in the Lord Mayor’s (Group 3) Cup at Doomben – both performing well. I think that if the track is favouring leaders, (not that you will know after one race) you will need to find a spot for Religify (16) that may get his own way out in front with Joao “The Magic Man” Moreira to take the ride for Chris Waller.

Selections: 11-5-9-2 rough chances 1, 4 & 16.

**************************************************************************************************

Race 3 – Bundaberg Rum Dane Ripper Stakes (Group 2

Ghisoni (3) was super impressive last start at Doomben and I think James McDonald had plenty up his sleeve going to the line. In the same race Cradle Me (4) has some late support and ran a gallant race and does have a slight weight advantage here. Others in the mix here are My Poppette (9) fresh from a powering finish at Morphettville last start. Artistry (12) and Elegant Composure (15) have also been racing very consistently. A nice race here.

Selections: 3-12-9-4 rough chance 15.

**************************************************************************************************

Race 4 – Mirvac Queensland Guineas (Group 2)

Sold for Song (15) has Jimmy Orman back on this week but he will need some luck after drawing barrier 21 – this horse has had really no luck with barrier draws this preparation. Kimberley Star (13) from the Gai Waterhouse stables is a mud lark and has been racing well. Too Good To Refuse (1) has been running well and always flashes late – the new Eagle Farm track and long straight may see it and Ryan Wiggins flying down the outside late to feature in the finish.

Tsaritsa (17) won very impressively last start at Rosehill and looks a promising type. Havasay (5) was badly checked last start and really had no luck – it has the addition of a nose roll this start – look for an improved performance here. Tivaci (2) is an interesting runner with breeding that says it should be running well over the distance here and has a good second up performance record.

Selections: 17-5-15-1 rough chances 2 & 13.

**************************************************************************************************

Race 5 – Mirvac QTC Cup (Group 2)

Miss Cover Girl (15) has finally drawn a barrier. She is an honest mare who performs well and has 3 wins from 4 starts third up from a spell. Target in Sight (2) ran a great race in the BTC Cup and is back in grade here and has drawn perfectly. The Peter and Paul Snowden pair of That’s A Good Idea (3) and Snippets Land (4) both won their last starts and are sure to be improved.

Perfect Fit (6), a horse from New Zealand, has some amazing Group 1 form and if it’s record of 6 from 11 starts is noted it is sure going to have a big chance here. Federal (10) was held up in the straight last time at Scone, getting out late and could be nice value here. Watch out for the third emergency if it gets the run Le Cordon Bleu (18) – I did tip it first up from a spell at Rosehill at the juicy price of $10 and it won – my mail is it has done well since that start.

Selections: 10-15-2-6 rough chances 3, 4, 11 and 18.

****************************************************************************************************

Race 6 – Evergreen Turf Brisbane Cup (Group 2 Race)

A great field assembled for this race. Ecuador (1) will be out in front for a long way here and with Adam Hyeronimus keeping the ride after winning its last two starts could prove hard to run down. One thing is for sure we will see a genuinely run race. Real Love (3) has thrived since coming to Brisbane and I did catch up with Brad Rawiller at the barrier draw for the Stradbroke who was quietly confident the mare would win again – with a little reservation about the barrier draw. ‘

The two David Vandyke runners Sir John Hawkwood (5) and Astronomos (11) could improve here. Astronomos (11) drops a fair bit of weight here and is undefeated third up from a spell winning two from two. I don’t think you could have missed the run of Benzini (8) last start coming from last to flash home and run second late – the extra distance here should suit.

Selections: 3-8-11-1 rough chance 5.

**************************************************************************************************

Race 7 – BMW J.J.Atkins (Group 1 Race)

The first leg of the unique Group 1 Quadrella.

Some serious support for two runners in this race both ran great races two weeks ago – Sacred Elixir (9) that has been backed from $9 to $4.40 and Candika (16) that has been backed from $15 to $7. Dreams Aplenty (6) run a bold race in the Sires’ Produce finishing a close second to Attention (2). The form from the Sires’ looks where the winner should come from. Souchez (3) just was getting warm late in the Sires’ – looks a great race and you will have to go wide in your Quaddies!

Selections: 9-3-16-2 rough chances 6 & 14.

*************************************************************************************************

Race 8 – Channel 7 Queensland Derby (Group 1)

I think this is the best race of the day and that whatever wins the race will go onto glory in the Spring in Melbourne.

The 2400 metres of the race will probably test a few of these here. Most people would have seen the slashing runs of both Howard Be Thy Name (1) and Eagle Way (7) behind Mackintosh (3) in the Grand Prix Stakes but there was another run worthy of mention - that being the Godolphin trained Eschiele (13) who steadied and came home late. Damian Browne retains the ride.

I really like the top weight here – I think it will go onto bigger and better things – it has drawn well, has the Darren Weir polish and ridden by Brad Rawiller who knows the horse well.

Selections 1-13-7-3 with rough chance 2 & 12.

**************************************************************************************************

Race 9 – 2016 AAMI Stradbroke (Group 1)

Another great field assembled here.

On exposed form and what I have seen this week on the track I really cannot go past the Ciaron Maher trained Azkadellia (5) – it has the veteran jockey Damian Oliver on her and he knows her well. As for the dangers you could tip half the field and still miss. Malaguerra (3), Music Magnate (4) and Black Heart Bart (1) have an impressive record over 1400 metres.

I like two long shots here. If you like playing wide Precious Gem (13) and Under The Louvre (7) must have some rough chance after their recent runs. Then you have Counterattack (12), reportedly one of the best horses in the Waller stable. Artlee (16) drops a lot of weight due the handicap conditions and has the services of his regular rider Mitchell Bell.

Well there you go – I have tipped half the field here! Maybe you will need to take the field in your Quaddies and hope for a rough result!

Selections 5-13-3-1 with rough chances 7, 12 and 16.

**************************************************************************************************

Race 10 - 2016 Treasury Casino and Hotel Queensland Oaks (Group 1 Race)

Kebede (3) has been impressive and looks like it is a genuine stayer that will appreciate the 2400 metres. Dawnie Perfect (10) ran home from the rear of the field last start and should improve further with the big long Eagle Farm straight. It is owned by John Singleton – maybe Singo will shout the bar after a big day of racing if she wins. His best mate Gerry Harvey has a share in Sebring Sally (6) maybe there will be some side betting on who finishes in front of who.

Falkenberg (12) and Tavi Bay (14) look to be rough chances as well here. It is great to see Jimmy Orman retain the ride on the Robert Smerdon trained Chabaud (2) in his search for his first Group 1 winner.

Selections 3-10-14-12 with rough chances 2 and 6.

Treble (races 8 to 10) - 1, 3, 7, 13 / 1, 3, 5, 12, 13, 16 / 3, 10, 12, 14 - cost $96 for $1
