WINNO'S WINNERS: IPSWICH, JUNE 18

By Darren Winningham | Thursday, June 16, 2016

Rail is in the true position for the Ipswich meeting. The track is probably going to be dead to slow. Horses who have won here usually perform well on this day each year.

**As this form assessment was made prior to raceday, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day.

Before we get going just a brief comment on Eagle Farm last week. There has been much commentary during and after the meeting I felt the track played well and provided an equal chance to all runners.

I would like to mention the great training performance from New Zealand trainer Tony Pike winning the JJ Atkins with the exciting two year old Sacred Elixir (I hope you all followed the tip). Then coming out and winning the Queensland Oaks with Provocative that decimated the field at only its seventh career start. Write these two down in your little black books come spring time in Melbourne.

This week I will be taking a short break from the Carnival and venturing to the Kilcoy Cup meeting to be held this Saturday – the track is dubbed the “Moonee Valley of the North”. I would say if you are up at the Sunshine Coast or in the area you should stop by to experience country racing at its very best.

A good field of bookmakers to set you on the interstate races plus a five race thoroughbred coupled with three pacer races (trotter) and three mini trotter races is sure to indulge all punters and families.

**************************************************************************************************

Race 1

In early market action Heart of a Warrior (3) and Blackjack Bella (11) have been well supported. Allknight Saint (2) has been racing in higher grades and has had a month off but has been kept ticking over by trainer Brad Herne with a hit out in a recent barrier trial. Outraged (5) run a massive race first up at long odds, has had a recent trial in which he won impressively and has the services of Damian Browne. Court’s Star (9) likes the track and is back in class – should be ridden close to the lead by Brad Stewart and should be in the finish.

Selections: 2-11-3-9 rough chances 5 and 8.

Race 2

Always Sacred (1) from the Toby Edmonds stable, who is firing at the moment, was unlucky last start missing the start and not really getting into the race at any stage. It has a good record at the Ipswich track and should not be underestimated here dropping back in class. Dee Nine Elle (4) loves to lead and ran a great race last start at Randwick. Tegan Harrison has a good association with the horse and this may prove vital in the race. Lightly raced Madame de Ban (8) comes off a winning run last start at the track and it was an impressive win that day. I believe the Dunn stable has a high opinion of this filly. Salmanazar (11) from the Tony Gollan stable has some nice wraps on him as well. The gelding has won its last two starts emphatically and has drawn well here.

Selections: 1-11-8-4 rough chance 2.

**************************************************************************************************

Race 3

Happy Event (3) from the John Zielke stable was the horse subject to the enquiry last start after it went out too hard in the Dalrello Stakes in Toowoomba. It has a jockey change with exciting up and coming apprentice Josh Oliver taking 3 kilograms off the horse bringing it in at 52 kilograms for this outing. Lauderdale (3) and Sir Donald (4) both won last start here at the track on the same day – with Sir Donald posting a faster race time. Sir Donald has been heavily backed to win the race since markets went up earlier in the week ($3.80 to $2.20).

Selections: 4-2-1-3

**************************************************************************************************

Race 4

This is a tough race with many chances. I would keep my money in my pocket if I were you. I was going to tip Irish Constabulary (13) but it was drawn barrier 19 – Sarah Eilbeck will need some luck from out there. Wicked Intent (7) has been racing in great heart without much luck and has not fared well drawing barrier 15. Upstart Pride (3) was a solid winner last start. I Am Boss (5) goes well here. Sarisara (10) has the blinkers back on and usually improves sharply each time they are added. Desert General (8) has the addition of blinkers as well – look for a bold run here.

Selections: 7-13-5-10 rough chance 3 and 8

*************************************************************************************************

Race 5

This race always throws up a rough result each year so be warned! Artibai (3) from the Kris Lees stables at Newcastle was probably not suited last start by the heavy track at Sunshine Coast. I am hoping that Mandryka (17) sneaks into the field with a scratching and then should be hard to beat. Caillebotte (1) has been running in some better grade races recently and drops sharply back in grade here for this run
`
Selections: 1-3-17-9

**************************************************************************************************

Race 6 – Channel 7 2016 Ipswich Cup

Maurus (2) is coming off a great run in the Doomben Cup. Dance on Heroes (7) looks like it has been set for a hit and run mission coming north for this race from the Chris Waller stables. Puccini (1) and Iggi Pop (4) are both backing up quickly after average runs in the Brisbane Cup (Group 2) last weekend.

Selections: 2-7-1-4 rough chance 10

**************************************************************************************************

Race 7 – 2016 City of Ipswich Eye Liner Stakes

If we get any more rain or the track is heavily affected by rain just load up on Timeless Prince (6). Trubia (7) has been very honest this preparation each time posting good runs. If Beckham (10), being ridden by front running jockey extraordinaire Tegan Harrison, can get across from the wide barrier and be left alone in front it could be all over! Royal Occasion (11) has won four races from five starts at the track and will love getting back to the tight turning Ipswich circuit. Then you have Steel Zip (2) that has been prepared by the astute Pat Duff team winning with three barrier trials getting ready for this first up run.

Selections: 7-10-2-11 rough chance 6 and 9

**************************************************************************************************

Race 8 – 2016 Gai Waterhouse Classic

Echo Girl (2) is trained by Gai Waterhouse so it would be a great result to see her win here! She did acquit herself well last week in the QTC Cup at Group 2 level only being beaten by 3.7 lengths. Adorabubble (6) to be ridden by Beau Dene Appo has been racing well without much luck and was freshened last week in a barrier trial finishing the trial off well behind Steel Zip. Blueberry Hill (7) has the blinkers coming off and is lightly raced and should be ridden more quietly this time by Jimmy Orman. Frill Seeking (8) from the Matthew Smith stables at Warwick Farm probably is looking for a dry track after performing well last start on a heavy bog at Rosehill – looked for an improved performance if the track is not rain affected. Serenade (10) was scratched last week – a lightly raced three year old filly and should be one of the hardest to beat. In pre-race betting there has been solid support for the Darren Weir trained Scarlet Billows (1) that comes back sharply in grade this week after racing in Group races in its last few starts.

Selections 10-2-7-6 with rough chances 1 and 8

*************************************************************************************************

Jockeys Challenge this week

I have Jeff Lloyd on top just pipping Luke Dittman and Tegan Harrison who should be a nice price if you want to save on them! Blake Shinn opened at $5 last week and got the cash!

**In State of Origin news for Game 2 to be held in Brisbane the cocky cane toads think they have NSW beaten prior to the match – smug and arrogant attitude from Queenslanders! I am tipping an upset … NSW to win the game by 8 points (good price of $16). Final score being NSW 16 – QLD 8. Man of the Match status to James Maloney (great price of $17). Take them in an all up for a tidy result!
