WINNO'S WINNERS: DOOMBEN, JULY 9
By Darren Winningham | Friday, July 8, 2016
Looks like it is the JJJ competition over the next few weeks in Brisbane racing with the Brisbane Metropolitan Jockeys Premiership going down to the wire.
Jeff Lloyd is currently leading with 67 wins. Jimmy Orman is on 66 and hot on their heels Jim Byrne on 65.5. It is sure to be an enthralling battle over the next three weeks.
Jimmy Orman had his careless riding suspension reduced from nine days to five days on Friday and whilst he now misses one metropolitan meeting will it ultimately lead to him missing out?
*As this form assessment was made prior to raceday, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day.
Race 1
Royal Tithe is back in class here and looks the one to beat. The Chris Munce runner, Snow Fields (12) ran well in the Lancaster Stakes and is coming back in class here – has the blinkers off again. Persistence Shadow (10) and Venetian Beauty (11) look like some good chances for the exotics.
Selections: 7-12-10-11

Race 2
Upstart Pride (3) has a good record at the track. Probably be ridden close to the lead by Jim Byrne. Divine Service (8) has been well backed in pre post markets after a good performance in the Rockhampton Newmarket. I like the run of Dream Choice (4) in the W.J Healey Stakes the other week. Choice Bro (1) should be suited by the smaller field and with the claim for apprentice Josh Oliver should be storming home late down the outside.
Selections: 3-4-1-8

Race 3
A very open race. Going with Snapper Rocks (10) after its impressive win at the Gold Coast last start. Denominator (4) won well last start over this track and distance. I went wide for the rest of them for the placings they all have shown some good recent form.
Selections: 10-4-7-12. Rough chance 15.

Race 4
Dame Destiny (6) has drawn better than some of the other fancied runners so I am tipping it. Invitations from the Kris Lees yards at Newcastle was unlucky in running second last time it went around at Doomben. It is sure to get a good run with Damian Browne on board. Moss Harry (4) and Thomas the Tank (5) will need some luck from their barrier draws but are sure to be in the finish.
Selections: 6-2-4-5

Race 5
Another race with numerous chances. Looks like a few resuming here could hold the key to the race.Code Noir (6), Stella Di Notte (16) and The Umbrella Man (14) all look good chances to fill the placings here. Rough Eddie (3) has been in good form at Toowoomba - maybe he can bring his good form to the big smoke!
Selections: 6-16-14-3. Rough chances 7 and 10 ******************************************************************************************************
Race 6
Harada Bay (4) meets Ruling Force (5) better at the weights after being beaten last start in the Rockhampton Cup. Lauterbrunnen (6) and Lordag (3) from the Heathcote stables have been racing consistently and are sure to be challenging at the finish. Hi Son (7) is an interesting runner who will probably shoot out and lead here - again Josh Oliver’s three kilogram allowance could prove invaluable if he can rate it in front.
Selections: 4-5-6-3. Rough chance 7

Race 7
Brettan (3) ran a great race last start going down to Flamboyer who has come out and won again since. Punta Norte (2) was caught on the bad section of the track last start at Eagle Farm - look for an improved performance. Romanarma (6) runs well second up and Angel Dancer (8) won well first up at Toowoomba.
Selections: 3-2-6-8

Race 8
Secret Trail (6) has trialled well and has won at the track. It is trained in Sydney by Peter and Paul Snowden and has the services of Damian Browne. The two from Rob Heathcote’s stable, Bidii Babe (8) and Oberland (8) both won their last starts very impressively. Quick Ketch (3) is a favourite horse of mine and always runs well fresh - has drawn badly in barrier 14 but it is sure to making a dash in the final 50 metres of the race.
Selections 6-9-8-3
*******************************************************************************************************
Quaddie (races 5,6,7,8) 3, 6, 14, 16 / 3, 4, 5, 6 / 2, 3, 8 / 3, 6, 8, 9 - cost $192 for $1
Treble (races 6,7,8) 3, 4, 5, 6 / 2, 3, 8 / 3, 6, 8, 9 - cost $48 for $1
Small Quaddie (races 5,6,7,8) 6, 16 / 4, 5, 6 / 2, 3 / 6, 8, 9 - cost $36 for $1
Madness Quaddie 6, 16 / 5, 6 / 3 / 6 - cost $4 for $1
Jockey Challenge Well this week the leading jockey in the Brisbane Jockey’s premiership Jeff Lloyd has a strong book of rides and should win - I will be bold and say he may score 12 points!
