WINNO'S WINNERS. DOOMBEN JULY 30
By Darren Winningham | Friday, July 29, 2016
Last week was a tough week at the races tipping winners. This week we are at Doomben again with the rail out 3.5 metres the entire course and we will be racing on a Good surface. The last meeting of the horse racing year and we see Jeff Lloyd holding a useful lead over Jim Byrne and Jimmy Orman going into the final meeting. It has been an amazing battle over the last three months with all three jocks going hard to secure the 2015/16 Brisbane jockey premiership.
NB *As this form assessment was made prior to raceday, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day. Race 1
Rednav (1) is coming off the Grafton Cup win and looks the one to beat here. He is trained by Sally Taylor who has had great success since commencing as a trainer. The danger looks like Viva Espana (5). However it is coming back in distance after its last run over 3200m. I think the race is a match in two. Super Force (7) could be a rough chance here as it goes well on dry tracks and probably will improve after its recent failure at the Gold Coast on a slow track.
Selections: 1-5-7-2.

Race 2
Desert General (6) has been racing consistently and deserves to break through for a win. Hi Son (2) is another that has been racing in higher grades without much luck and could get out and lead here and be difficult to run down. Emerald City (4) has been freshened with a recent barrier trial and does have a good second up record and warrants some respect. The Iliad (10) probably didn’t like the heavy track last start at Eagle Farm and has the addition of blinkers for this start – watch out for a bold improvement.
Selections: 6-4-10-2.

Race 3
As you all know I attended the Grafton Carnival recently. I watched Zumikon (2) win two races down there impressively and in some good time as well. I think the horse has the ability to step up here and win again. Spot the Diff (1) has a three kilogram weight claim for apprentice Josh Oliver and both he and John Zielke combined last week to win another two year old race for the season. I think that was win number 14 for the Zielke stable with his team of two year olds. The first starter Spirit and Fire (16) from the Hawkes team has trialled well and I am not certain whether it will get a run or not – but it will be hard to beat if it gets a start! O’Reilly Cyrus (13) from the Liam Birchley stables is a nice type and could run well fresh. Red Handle (7) is another nice type who ran into some stiff opposition last preparation. Has the benefit of a run at Ipswich where she won impressively. It is an open race with many chances.
Selections: 2-16-7-13. Rough chances 1, 6 and 14.

Race 4
This could be an interesting contest with the David Vandyke stable holding the key to the race. Alpha Beat (6) has changed stables and has trialled well winning a trial at the Sunshine Coast recently – it has the blinkers removed for this race and normally races off the pace. Could be finishing hard. Beckham (4) returned to form last start racing handy and then forging away in the final stages to win impressively. Saluter (2) has been racing well of late and will benefit from the three kilogram weight relief for apprentice Chris “Delltori” Dell who takes the ride here for the Robert Heathcote team.
Selections: 4-6-2-9.

Race 5
A no metro win race to start off our Quaddies … what are they doing to the punters! It is truly a lottery here. Arena Salon (12) raced well recently over the Grafton Carnival and has been well supported in early markets being backed from $7.50 to $5.50. Looks well placed here. Shipwrecked (19) from the Tony Gollan stable has been racing well on the provincial tracks but looks like it is one that will maybe able to step up to this grade and has drawn well compared to some of the other favoured horses. Shower of Hearts (11) and Carton (7) have faired poorly with the barrier draw, however, with any luck in the running should be there about in the finish.
Selections: 12-19-11-7. Rough chance 14.

Race 6
Rhyme for Rhythm (9) is the favourite here and has drawn the rails and should be hard to beat but I am going for Comic Story (3) who normally races well fresh from a spell – it has won a recent barrier trial on the Gold Coast and looks well placed here first up. Slydini (1) has changed stables from Joe Pride in Sydney and is now trained by Bryan Guy on the Gold Coast. I am not sure if it has been up too long and is looking for a spell but it does have some class on its side. Josh Oliver again takes the ride and gives the horse a nice weight relief. Flo Jo Snip (10) seems to race will when ridden in the lead – she has drawn well here in barrier 4 and is sure to be given every chance by the astute Ryan Wiggins. A lightly raced horse here is Shoreline (17) from the Ben Currie stable. It looks a nice type and was impressive leading all the way at Toowoomba first up – again has drawn well and could be some value in the race.
Selections: 3-17-9-10, Rough chances 1 and 13.

Race 7
Aghhh ... a mixed 2 and 3 year old QTIS race … can these races get any harder! Most Important (2) is a nice type but can play up before a race – but if he settles and gets to the barrier quietly it may be hard to beat in this field. Colinelle (5) won impressively last week and looks a progressive type. Dylan’s Luck (7) was beaten last week by Colinelle but meets him better at the weights this week. Madotti (10) ran a close second in the same race and has been well backed in the early markets - $7 to $4.20 – a big go here on this one! The best of the two year olds is probably River Racer (16) who has been racing well and has drawn well here.
Selections: 2-5-10-7. Rough chance 16.
*************************************************************************************************
Race 8
The Edmonds stable look like they hold the key to the final race with their two runners. Mr Epic (1) won well last start on the heavy track at Eagle Farm. Sagaronne (2) ran a nice race behind Sold for Song in the Daybreak Lover and probably will appreciate the 1615 metres here. Empevee (10) won well recently at Grafton and raced like the extra distance would be no trouble here. Ima Showman (9) has been getting back in his starts of late and making a late dash late and again the extra distance may suit the horse. Legal Procedure (3) probably was not suited by the heavy track last start – I think on top of the ground it could show improvement this weekend.
Selections 1-3-2-9. Rough chances 10 and 20.
**************************************************************************************************

Small Quaddie (races 5,6,7,8) 12,19 /3,9 / 2,5,10 / 1,2,3 - cost $36 for $1
Madness Quaddie 12,19 / 3,17 / 2,10 / 1,3 - cost $16 for $1.
Jockey Challenge this week Looks a tough week and it may come down to who may pick up some late rides on some of the emergencies. I have Jeff Lloyd winning it narrowly from apprentice Josh Oliver with Jim Byrne hot on their heels – review the scratchings and late engagements on Saturday there may be some value here!
