WINNO'S WINNERS: EAGLE FARM, AUGUST 20
By Darren Winningham | Friday, August 19, 2016
Winno was on fire last week with a few winners and a trifecta! There is an opinion amongst some people that horses have performed well at the new Eagle Farm track they may have a distinct advantage. Well let’s put that theory to the test this week! I think I will look for horses that have won or run well at the track recently and see what happens!
Caution the rail is 7.5 metres out this week – this is the furthest I think it has ever been since the track was reopened. It may be worth watching a few races to see where they are winning from before having a decent bet.
It was good to see Toby Edmonds get a winner in the last race with Mr Epic last week – I usually put the mock on them when I tip his horses. To celebrate the win we swapped hats for a quick photo to celebrate! My fat head could not get his hat on, but he looked good in the white HRO cap.
NB *As this form assessment was made prior to raceday, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day.
Race 1
Captain’s Pick (1) should race out in front here. Trained by Ben Currie his stable apprentice Josh Oliver comes home from a recent holiday in New Zealand to take the ride – it should prove hard to beat. Persistent Shadow (3) has been racing consistently and like Cushion Pink (2) gets back and will run home late. A good rough chance is Perilous Love (10) who has been racing in similar company as the rest of these – she may be up for this assignment at some decent odds. There has been some serious money for Social Vampire (4) from the Helen Page stables at the Gold Coats in early markets if you like to follow the market movers.
Selections: 1-3-2-10 rough chance 4.
Race 2
Abracadash (4) was scratched last week and has a win at the track. It takes on the super consistent mare Hidden Pearl (1) who slaughtered the field at her last start at Eagle Farm – she does rise sharply in weight but may be out in front here for a long way. I think it is a match race between these two; however any of the others could fill the placing.
Selections: 1-4-2-5.
Race 3
The Chris Waller trained Springbok Flyer (1) has been sent north to get away from the wet tracks – it is ironic the weather man is forecasting light showers on Friday and Saturday. Anton En Evant (3) won last start well at the track and Ryan Wiggins has retained the ride on the Stephen Lee trained gelding. Annaman (4) has been racing consistently without much luck. I did see Sentimental Prince (6) win well at Ekka race day at Doomben – he rises in grade here but he was impressive that day and could take the next step. He is looking for a hat trick of wins here. In early markets he has been well found. Charcuterie (9) got out of his ground last start behind Anton En Evant and may be ridden a little handier this start from barrier 1 – expect an improved performance.
Selections: 9-6-3-4 rough chance 1 if the track is dry,
Race 4
Beckham (4) won well last week – he trailed the leader Flamboyer all the way and was too strong over 1400 metres. He has two recent wins at the new Eagle Farm circuit so he ticks a few boxes here this week. Mr Edmonds from the Gold Coast has La Spiaggia (8) engaged here and the gelding ran a super race last start, running second, after drawing barrier 15. As I haven’t tipped it on top it will probably win here! Jetset Lad (2) does love the track and always runs an honest race. Revitalise (9) has been well supported in recent starts – but has not lived up to the expectations of the money that has been put on it.
Selections: 4-8-2-9 rough chance 10.
Race 5
Where’s Thatdragon (1) has a good record here and has the services of Matthew McGillivray so the weight relief for his claim may be of benefit. She races handy and if the track is rain affected her chances will be enhanced even further. Most Important (3) just has to turn up and put it together and he will probably win the race convincingly. Monster of Energy (9) was scratched last week and has run some nice races here recently. I did tip Budget Bender (6) as a good roughie first up – the gelding has drawn badly this week but his second up record is impeccable. There has been some serious support for Most Important (3) and Monster of Energy (9) in early markets.
Selections: 3-9-1-6 rough chance 11
Race 6
The Monstar (2) monstered them last start at Eagle Farm – it goes up in weight here and there is not much between the horse he beat last start Into The Red (1) and him again here. They look the two to beat – but can the Kelso Wood trained Into The Red turn the tables this week? Executed (3) won well in Townsville last start over there recent Carnival and could test the two favourites. It has been well supported in the early markets since betting opened early in the week.
Selections: 2-1-3-4
Race 7
Skylimit (2) has been racing in good fettle and has a good record here at Eagle Farm. True Royal (5) put in a great effort on Ekka show day at Doomben for new trainer Rob Heathcote – the gelding was well rated by Jim Byrne and it looked like it could go on with it after an impressive performance. He will be ridden handy as well so if there leaders are winning he could be one to be on here. Escebee (6) is trained by Brett Cavanaugh in Toowoomba and his horses have had a pretty good strike rate since he started training in South East Queensland. Two horses to watch here are Legendary Luke (9), who always races well fresh, and the Grafton trained Dantga (11), who has a rider change with Ben Looker taking the ride this weekend. This is another horse that will be not far off the speed and goes well second up and has been backed in the early markets.
Selections: 2-5-6-8 rough chances 9, 11 and 13.
Race 8
Looks like a tough assignment in the last race with a Class 3 Plate to finish off the day. San Telmo (9) won well last start at the track and was ridden well by Michael “Muppy” Hellyer – I was at the Gold Coast that day and said to one of the co-owners, Bryan Meggitt, that it looked like the race and conditions were made for him before he left the Coast to head to Brisbane to watch him win. American Diva (12) is flying after winning at Grafton and Doomben – now the mare is looking for a hat trick. There is an interesting riding change here with Josh Oliver taking the ride and the horse getting a 3 kilogram weight relief for his claim. Time to Torque (4) and Royal Roulette (3) are racing consistently and should be some good value here. Some rough chances here to Bound For Love (13), Dame Van Winkle (14) and Fastquest (18) could run well here and if any of them won or filled a place, it would not be a surprise. San Telmo has been the subject of early market support since the markets have opened on this race.
Selections: 12-9-4-3 rough chances 13, 14 and 18.

This week it looks like a close win to Josh Oliver – looks to have a nice book of rides and is coming of a small freshen up with his recent trip to New Zealand.
