WINNO'S WINNERS: EAGLE FARM, SEPTEMBER 3

By Darren Winngham | Friday, September 2, 2016

We are back at Eagle Farm this week. Rail in the true position and everyone has an opinion on where they will win from and where you will need to be. Let’s see if the runners on the rail get any advantage this week. Last week Winno jabbed the treble and the quadrella in his tips - so let’s hope I can carry the good form forward into this week!

NB *As this form assessment was made prior to raceday, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day.

Race 1

Helen Page and Sky Bogenhuber combine again here this week with Social Vampire (4) who turned in a great run a fortnight ago at the same track. I like the run and when Helen brings them to town her horses always give you a great sight for your money! General Cos (11) ran third in the same race and looks like it will be a rough chance here again. Another Slipper (3) has been well supported in early markets and looks the obvious danger to the Page runner. I like another one here at some odds – Madluce Missile (13) who is trained by the astute Chris Anderson and is to be ridden by Paul Hammersley. I think on its past few starts it is one looking for the 1400 metres of this race. It has been well backed in early markets from $19 to $13.

Selections: 4-3-13-11 rough chance 2.

Race 2

Anton En Avant (1) has won its last two starts here over the same distance and has hit a real purple patch of form. It goes up in weight but has the services of apprentice Matthew McGillivray who will take a two kilogram claim. Denominator (2) ran second race won by Anton En Avant and has an average winning strike rate. San Telmo (3) has come back from a spell and has been racing consistently in recent weeks – but does go up in weight here. The stable mate Answered (11) is lightly raced and did win a Class 1 race last start at the Sunshine Coast. It drops dramatically in weight and Sairyn Fawke retains the ride and will take three kilograms off its back here. Golden Coin (6) from the Liam Birchley stable looks a promising type and has performed well over a similar distance in Melbourne before the stable change to Liam. I think this may be the one to beat here at some nice odds. Annaman (5) has been just plodding in recent starts – I am sacking him this week – he will probably get up and win now!

Selections: 6-11-2-1.

Race 3

This is a tough race – I really don’t like it all. For the record Fire Within (5) has been racing consistently with a third and second at Eagle Farm in the last two starts. Moon and the Stars (6) is another horse that has been in consistent form. Igneous (8) has a win at the track and has the services of comeback jockey and gentleman Larry Cassidy – maybe it is one at a good price that can get Larry his first winner since resuming riding after an injury enforced period away from the saddle. Secret Puzzle (13) from the Les Ross stable is another lightly raced horse in form and has drawn the one barrier. Will probably take up a nice position in running and be there about at the finish.

Selections: 5-8-13-6 rough chance 2.

****************************************************************************************************

Race 4

Monster of Energy (4) has run some nice races here at Eagle Farm – both times just being pipped. Neuschwanstein (7) trained by Rob Heathcote has a pretty good third up record and has Josh Oliver riding – the three kilogram claim should help the gelding here. Magnus Cor (8) is a dual acceptor (also in Race 8) and did win well last start at the Sunshine Coast. Legendary Luke (5) was inconvenienced in his first run back from a spell at Eagle Farm two weeks ago and is sure to be improved by that run.

Selections: 4-7-8-5 rough chance 9.

***************************************************************************************************

Race 5

A Class 3 race to start this week’s Quadrella – looks a tough ask here! The Virginian (7) is resuming after running an amazing third in this year’s Stradbroke. It has the benefit of a recent barrier trial win at the Gold Coast and is trained by the Toby Edmonds team – who as I tipped last week are flying at the moment. It has been unlucky at the barrier draw drawing 16 so may need a little luck from out there. Jeff Lloyd takes the ride and is in great form. Dylan’s Luck (2) was scratched last week and has a poor barrier draw here this week – but does look the obvious danger. Shamfrancisco (10) from the David Vandyke stables was run down first up from a spell at Doomben – it should strip fitter here. So Miraggio (6) is a lightly raced gelding from the Aquis Farm team trained by Steve O’Dea and is coming off two good wins at the Sunshine Coast. Steps up here to Saturday grade – it should race handy and may test the opposition..

Selections: 7-2-6-10.

***************************************************************************************************

Race 6

El Sasso (4) makes the trip north to Queensland from the Snowden stables in Sydney. Last preparation it raced well here at Doomben and probably is the one to beat here. Dream Choice (2) has a nice win last start at Eagle Farm and is racing well as an eight year old gelding. I give rough chances to Kudero (7) and Profiler (11). Profiler normally needs a run or two to show his best from but did string a hat trick of impressive wins together last preparation.

Selections: 4-2-7-11.

****************************************************************************************************

Race 7

Mr Epic (8) won here last start in great style – he goes up in grade but should race on the speed and is sure to be hard to beat. The only danger I can see here is Angel Dancer (9) who was unlucky last start and powered home late to only just go down narrowly. In an interesting twist the normal stable jockey for the Edmonds stable, Jeff Lloyd is riding Angel Dancer – he has a great affiliation with the mare having two rides for two wins. Meanwhile Jim Byrne goes onto Mr Epic after riding Angel Dancer last start. I wonder what odds I can get a dead heat here! Bruce Hill trains the other two chances in the race – Teronado (3) and Bodega Negra (4) who should round out the placings.

Selections: 8-9-3-4.

***************************************************************************************************

Race 8

Great ... just great! A no metro win race to finish off the day! They keep making it harder each week to get the last leg of your Quaddie up! I am tipping wide here with Mr Jetset (11) on top – he ran home well first up from a spell at Eagle Farm and has won two times out of three second up in the past. I think the danger is Saint Hugo (12) who has drawn nicely. Revaldor (16) has been well backed in early markets firming from $8 to $6 – I am not sure whether he likes the tracks wet and may struggle here this week. Ziggy Willie (4) is second up here in Brisbane and did run well recently at Eagle Farm. Carrangall (18) has hit a purple patch stringing two wins together recently and is from the astute Norm Hilton stable – Jim Byne has been booked for the run. Up in grade here but it was impressive winning last start at the Gold Coast after winning at Eagle Farm at a midweek meeting. This one may be some good value for your exotics.

Selections: 11-12-18-4 rough chances 2 and 16.

***************************************************************************************************

Early Quaddie (NSW TAB only races 1 to 4) 3, 4, 13 / 2, 6, 11 / 5, 8, 13 / 4, 5, 7, 8 - cost is $108 to $1

Quaddrella (races 5 to 8) 2, 6, 7, 10 / 2, 4, 11 / 8, 9 / 11, 12,18 - cost is $72 to $1

Small Quaddie (races 5 to 8) 6, 7 / 2, 4 / 8, 9 / 11, 12, 18 - cost is $24 to $1

Mad Quaddie (races 5 to 8) 7 / 4 / 8,9 / 11,12,18 - cost is $6 to $1

Treble (race 6 to 8)2, 4 / 8, 9 / 11, 12, 18 - cost is $12 to $1

Jockey Challenge

This week is a tough week – I really do not have any jockey dominating the meeting. I have Jim Byrne and Jeff Lloyd finishing on equal points. Two apprentices, Jimmy Orman and Josh Oliver have some nice rides and may be a good price.
