WINNO'S WINNERS - DOOMBEN, SEPTEMBER 10
By Darren Winningham | Friday, September 9, 2016
Doomben on Saturday after a meeting there on Wednesday. The rail is out 4 metres the entire course.
This week’s shout out is to HRO’s regular writer and tipster David Fowler - who tipped five winners on the card at Doomben on Wednesday with his special getting up in the last race at the nice odds of $5.40. Well done David!
The team at HRO has been in great form recently!
NB *As this form assessment was made prior to raceday, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day.
Race 1
There are a couple resuming here that may run well fresh – Hard Stride (2) and Flying Riddle (5). Flying Riddle has had the benefit of a recent trial and it ran well. Beau Appo takes the ride here and has a good association with the horse. Hard Stride resumes after running in some tough races last preparation. The Storeman (3), trained by the Gollan team, is second up here and has the blinkers back on for this run. The gelding has an amazing second up record and will test this lot. The top weight Saluter (1) has won only once from 15 starts at Doomben but may be improved if the track is firm. Don’t Tease Me (10) has a good record at the track and has been performing well on the country NSW tracks – it is down in weight and back on a dry track. Look for an improved performance.
Selections: 2-3-5-10.

Race 2
This is a rough race with the Country horses coming to town. It is hard to line up the form and make a solid tip. This may be a race to sit and watch. I am going to tip Favorite Shadow (8) just because it has run at Doomben last start and may have been unlucky in the run, being held up at the 300m mark. Ben Currie trains Heroic Action (1) and it has a great strike rate with 15 wins from 34 starts – so maybe it can go well here. The run resuming at Toowoomba, beaten by 1.3 lengths, was full of merit. As for the rest take your pick!
Selections: 8-1-4-5.

Race 3
Ryan Wiggins has made his way back to Brisbane from his trip out towards Birdsville. He rides Anton En Avant (7) for Ballina trainer Stephen Lee. The gelding is looking for a hat trick of wins here and Ryan Wiggins looking to make it 3 wins from 3 rides on him. Best Case (2) ran well last start and the extra distance may help this week. My Diamantine (5) was in the same race last start and should improve here this week after making a run late and only going down by 0.4 lengths.
Selections: 7-2-5-3.

Race 4
Mymancharles (4) ran second to Ringo’s A Rockstar (1) last start at Doomben. I think the extra distance of this race (1200m) should suit him better – it also gives Larry Cassidy a chance to ride a winner since making his comeback. Another Slipper (9) won well last start at Ipswich and has drawn the rails here – I hope Jackson “Wack” Morris can find his way to Doomben on time this week to take the ride (sorry mate just had to say it). The class runner Bagus (2) has a great record second up with 2 wins from 2 starts. Bridget Grylls goes back on this week and she has a wonderful record on the filly with three wins from five rides. There is a roughie here that may be one to keep your eye on – Eckstein (11) – has performed well in Sydney as a two year old and has won a recent barrier trial at the Gold Coast. The only problem is that it has drawn out near the airport in barrier 14.
Selections: 4-1-9-2 rough chance 11.

Race 5
The first leg of this week’s Quaddie! Big Tree (4) is first up here – you may get a guide on how he may go as he ran a close second at the Gold Coast trial that was won by Eckstein (that is in race 4). He ran a great race in the Gold Coast Guineas back in May and usually comes to hand quite quickly. Sony Legend (6) won extremely well first up at Eagle Farm and has a great second up record. The Toby Edmonds stable continue to dominate in town with another winner on Wednesday and have Prompt Return (11) engaged here – it steps up to 1200m but the way it won last start I think it is the one to beat here. Land Office (13) won well last start at Doomben and has drawn wide – I think jockey Glen Colless may not lead from the barrier and will be looking to get in early and not get caught too wide.
Selections: 11-13-4-6 rough chance 12.

Race 6
Pepperano (12) has run second in both starts since resuming from a spell. I think it can turn the tables this week on Pienkna (8) – I think it looks a good quinella. The Sydney visitor Taltarni (9) came to Doomben in January for a hit and run mission from the astute Craig Carmody stable and won that time. I think that the dry track at Doomben on the weekend could see a dramatic form reversal after the mare has struggled on rain affected tracks in three runs from a spell. Be sure to not leave this one out of your multiples. She gets in well here with Matthew McGillivray’s claim as well – I am nearly talking myself into taking some of the $17 that is on offer at the moment! Sea Red (2) is an honest mare is does perform well at the Doomben track and is ready to show her best.
Selections: 12-8-9-2.
***************************************************************************************************
Race 7
Monsieur Gustave (12) made a mess of them last start at Doomben – despite the rise in class here the gelding has drawn barrier 1 and is sure to be hard to run down again. Most Important (13) is a horse with great potential but is a head case. If the horse turns up on the day it could destroy this field. Take note of the jockey change this week with Robbie Fradd taking the ride – maybe there will be a change in tactics and the gelding may improve. I like the other Tony Gollan runner here as well. Shipwrecked (8) enjoys running at the Doomben track and retains Jim Byrne as the jockey who has a 2 wins from 4 rides record on the gelding. I think that the Eagle Farm track may have been the downfall last start and he could be storming home late. Damian Browne makes his return to Doomben after having a small break and ride Brotherly Secret (6) for Robert Heathcote. The gelding put in a great run last start being narrowly beaten by Land Office (who is engaged in Race 5) – this may be a good lead to his prospects this week.
Selections: 12-13-6-8.

Race 8
The last race is over a mile with some promising types engaged. Silento (13) put in a nice run second up at Doomben and won on that occasion – it then went to the Sunshine Coast on a soft track and over raced. This week the master Damian Browne takes the ride. Bound For Love (14) is racing in career best form. She defeated San Telmo a few weeks ago at Eagle Farm and San Telmo came out and won last weekend. Fusina (9) is the stable mate of Silento and has some good form over the distance and the track.
Selections: 14-13-9-6.
