WINNO'S WINNERS: EAGLE FARM, SEPTEMBER 17

By Darren Winningham | Friday, September 16, 2016

Eagle Farm this week with a ten race program. Looks like a tough ask. The rail is out 6m the entire course and the track is rated a soft 6 at the moment with some rain predicted. To repeat, this is going to be a tough card. Winno was in solid form last week before the rain came down and washed all my dreams and all ups away!

The week’s shout is to Toby Edmonds who ventures to Caulfield with The Virginian who races in the Testa Rossa Stakes (race 7) – we wish him well.

NB *As this form assessment was made prior to raceday, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day.

Race 1

I have just gone for the two horses here that should handle the wet track – Annaman (4) and War Baby (5). War Baby has a good record at the track and has a claim for apprentice Sairyn Fawke who celebrated his birthday on Tuesday this week – maybe it will be a belated birthday present for him! War Baby was a great run in the recent Ballina Cup and I think the form out of this race may be good to follow.

Selections: 5-4-2-7

Race 2

Rhyming (2) is a lightly raced three year old filly with an excellent record from her only three starts – she was impressive last start at the Sunshine Coast and will be tough to beat here. Two weeks ago at Eagle Farm on a heavy track the Brian Smith trained Shuda Known Better (8) dominated – with a rain affected track anticipated this week she may go on with it here. Andrew Spinks retains the ride and always has a smile for the camera – make sure you give me something on the way out Spinksy! Dapper One (7) ran on well last week at Doomben and gives the impression that the extra distance this week will be of some benefit.

Selections:2-8-7-5

Race 3

Monsieur Gustave (12) made a mess of them last start at Doomben – despite the rise in class here the gelding looks right in this. He comes to the Eagle Farm track for the first time – I am tipping against him here on the assumption the wet track at the Eagle Farm course may beat him. I am going to tip Monster of Energy (4) who seems to have an affinity with the new Eagle Farm course with two wins and two seconds from his four starts. Jockey Tegan Harrison retains the ride here and the gelding should be racing handy from barrier 2.

Selections: 4-10-2-8

Race 4

Hot Hit (1) has good form on wet tracks and is first up here on Eagle Farm track. Bush Caviar (3) loves a wet track. Alpen Rose (6) has three wins on a heavy track for three starts. Stella Ombra (12) was a great run first up, but has an average record second up. Gracida (16) has an impressive record first up and on wet tracks and has drawn well here – and looked forward in a recent barrier trial running a close fourth beaten 1.4 lengths. The stallion is the fourth emergency and needs to get a run.

Selections: 16-6-3-1 rough chance 12

Race 5

La Spiaggia (5) has been racing well lately. The gelding retains the services of Jim Byrne who has a great record on the horse. I am sure he will be hard to beat here as long as the track doesn’t deteriorate to a heavy rating. Deconstructed (8) and Colour Change (6) have both performed well on wet tracks and at the Eagle Farm course.

Selections: 5-8-6-7

****************************************************************************************************

Race 6

One Inch Punch (9) won well three starts ago here on a heavy track. Last start the run was full of merit and I think now he is back down in the weights he will be difficult to beat here. Dream Choice (3) usually runs well on wet tracks but is untried over the 1400metres – may be one to watch. Total Authority (6) pops up now and again and the conditions may suit this weekend.

Selections: 9-6-3-7

**************************************************************************************************

Race 7

Secret Puzzle (10) is a mud lark and will be the one to beat if the rain arrives. Bound For Love (14) was impressive last start here on the track. She goes up in grade here but may make the transition. 2015/16 Jockey Premiership winner Jeff Lloyd retains the ride on the Toby Edmonds trained mare. Silento (9) is an interesting runner for the Robert Heathcote stables and Jimmy Orman has been reunited with the gelding – he has a great record on him with three wins from seven rides.

Selections: 10-14-9-3

**************************************************************************************************

Race 8

Pienkna (3) has ran well in both starts since resuming from a spell. It should be hard to toss here. The smokey of the field is the Gordon Yorke trained Marscay Force (9) who has resumed and won three in a row around the NSW provincials. It has impeccable wet weather form and was dominant in its latest run on a heavy track at Wyong. Local jockey Paul Hammersley takes the ride – it is not often Gordon brings his horses to town but history shows when he does they are very competitive. Tapestry Vision (5) has had a stable change from Robert Smerdon in Melbourne to David Reynolds at Dalby – the horse has performed well on wet tracks – one to keep in your exotics.

Selections: 3-9-8-5

****************************************************************************************************

Race 9

Miri Miri (6) has been in great form since resuming. She likes a wet track and at $16 I think the mare is good value here. Late in the day she will probably race on the speed and may be hard to run down. I tipped Most Important (3) last week and the race was abandoned – he may be suspect on a heavy track. Queen Tara (7) has webbed feet and will enjoy the sting out of the ground and will be in it for a long way. The Peter and Paul Snowden trained Wild N Famous (1) always runs well, but with 58.5kgs and late in the day, jockey Damian Browne will have to be at his best to get the gelding home.

Selections: 6-7-3-1 – rough chance 5

*************************************************************************************************

Race 10

The last race on a massive day of racing – you will want to be in front here before having a bet as it is a Class 3 race! Brazen Moss (2) from the Tony Gollan yard looks hardest to beat. I tried to go wide for the placings with some that like wet tracks and have no weight – I have settled on Beckoning Light (11), Unassuming (15) and One Mansini (16) - all of them with some reasonable form on wet tracks and should be handy.

Selections: 2-11-16-15

**************************************************************************************************

Early Quaddie (NSW TAB only races 3 to 6) 4,10 / 6,16 / 5,6,8 / 6,9 - cost is $24 to $1

Small Quaddie (races 7 to 10) 10,14 / 3,9 / 6,7 / 2,11,16 - cost is $24 to $1

Mad Quaddie (races 7 to 10) 10,14 / 3 / 6,7 / 2,16 - cost is $8 to $1

Treble (races 8 to 10) 3,9 / 3,6,7 / 2,11,15,16 - cost is $24 to $1

Jockey Challenge

This week you may wish to have something on Tegan Harrison – she has some nice rides – the other one in the mix is Jeff Lloyd – if they retain all their rides I have them finishing on equal points.
