WINNO'S WINNERS: EAGLE FARM, SEPTEMBER 24

By Darren Winningham | Friday, September 23, 2016

We are back at Eagle Farm this week. Rail in the true position and everyone has an opinion on where they will win from and where you will need to be. Let’s see if the runners on the rail get any advantage this week. Last week Jeff Lloyd dominated the meeting at Eagle Farm with five winners. Amazing effort – looks like he is serious about defending his title as the leading rider in Brisbane for the 2015/16 season.

NB *As this form assessment was made prior to race-day, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day.

Race 1

Anton En Avant (1) has won its last two starts here over the same distance and has hit a real purple patch of form. It now has won three in a row and Ryan Wiggins is looking for four out of four on the gelding. Denominator (4) blitzed them last weekend on the Eagle Farm track – a rider change here with Jeff Lloyd taking the ride and down in weight will test the top weight. San Telmo (7) is the other chance and is also down in weight with “Muppy” Hellyer taking the ride.

Selections: 1-4-7-6.

Race 2

Nicconi Leggera (1) gets in well here with the claim for apprentice Josh Oliver. It is a speed machine and resumed impressively a month ago at the Gold Coast. Manias (2) was impressive midweek at his first start at Doomben – looks to have some improvement in him. Bithard (3) has been working through its classes and is trained by Darryl Hansen at the Sunshine Coast. His team have been on fire lately and they all seem to be enjoying the new Eagle Farm racing surface. Could be one to watch at some nice odds – this stable usually backs them when they are confident, although there has been no early money of note at this stage. The Tony Gollan trained Rumba Queen was impressive at her only start. She has drawn handy here in barrier 2 and Jim Byrne may just sit behind these leaders and come late and get the chockies! One that I must mention is King Torio (9) who is trained at Rockhampton by Rob Bowen – the colt was super impressive at his local track with a commanding win at his only start – can he make the graduation to Saturday company? Only time will tell.

Selections: 1-2-3-6 rough chance 9.

Race 3

Privlaka (9) from the Rob Heathcote stables is clearly the class runner here – he has drawn wide in barrier 11 but should be hard to toss. Gojo Mimo (1) from the Brad Herne stable always runs well fresh and at massive odds could be one to watch. The Grafton trained Lucky Meteor (4) has been trialling well and has drawn barrier 1 and is another one at nice odds that could find a place.

Selections: 9-1-4-8.

Race 4

Secret Puzzle (1) was gallant last week in defeat over 1600m at Eagle Farm – I think she should be hard to beat this week. The danger is Victory Parade (11) from the Gold Coast Toby Edmonds team – the stable is going well so far this season and the mare does look like she can make the transition to city grade. Like last week, when I spoke about the wily Gordon Yorke bringing a horse to town and getting the win at good odds, a colleague of his, Jim Jarvis – who trains Ultimate Dancer (3) – can follow suit. The run at Wyong was not all that bad on a very heavy track. Josh Oliver takes the ride and with his claim the mare gets in well here.

Selections: 1-11-3-5.

Race 5

A great race to open the first leg of the Quaddie this week. Hidden Pearl (3) returns from an unlucky run at Randwick. I like the form of Sony Legend (7) who has won its last two starts and going well. Hidden Pearl will be out in front here for a long way but the way Sony Legend has been finishing off his races I can see finishing over the top of her here. I have put in Prompt Return (10), beaten by Sony Legend last start, to fill the placings. El Sasso (4) from the Snowden yards in Sydney may improve sharply this weekend.

Selections: 7-3-10-4.

**************************************************************************************************

Race 6

Revaldor (2) has a good record here at Eagle Farm and deserves a change of luck. Comic Story (3) is a nice type and will race well here. Powerful Saga (5) would be a great result for trainer Helen Page – as she celebrated her birthday on Thursday. Overall this is a tough race and anything could pop up.

Selections: 2-3-5-9 rough chance 8.

**************************************************************************************************

Race 7

Last start Deconstructed (2) was smashed on and off track, backed into $3.30 favourite and raced poorly – but was caught wide and was unlucky. This week the gelding has drawn barrier 2 and may get a better run. Raffinato (6) has been racing well and steps up in distance and grade here. Gouldian (9) ran well behind Raffinato last start and will be suited by the longer distance this week. Brazen Moss (1) has had some good performances on the Eagle Farm track but may struggle with the 60 kilos.

Selections: 2-6-9-1.

***************************************************************************************************

Race 8

Fire Within (6) has a nice record at the track and Glen Colless takes the ride this week. The horse has been up a long time and this may be the only issue. Neuschwanstein (14) was a solid run the other week behind Monster of Energy. Legendary Luke (10) is third up here and may be ready to show his best. Hehas a 3 kilogram weight relief for apprentice Sairyn Fawke.

Selections: 10-14-6-7 rough chance 8.

**************************************************************************************************

Early Quaddie (NSW TAB only races 1 to 4) 1,4 / 1,2 / 1,9 / 1,11 - cost is $16 to $1.

Quadrella (races 5 to 8) 3,7,10 / 2,3,5 / 2,6.9 / 6,10,14 - cost is $81 to $1.

Small Quaddie (races 5 to 8) 7,10 / 2,3 / 2,6 / 10,14 - cost is $16 to $1.

Treble (race 6 to 8) 2,3 / 2,6 / 10,14 - cost is $8 to $1.

Jockey Challenge

This week it is a tough week – Josh Oliver has some nice rides and may be a good price – of course the logical danger is Jeff Lloyd.
