WINNO'S WINNERS: DOOMBEN, OCTOBER 1
By Darren Winningham | Friday, September 30, 2016
Doomben this week – I just love this track!
Well this week a brief discussion about the “invasion” from the South African jockeys to Brisbane racing. Last weekend Jeff Lloyd and Robbie Fradd rode five winners on the program between them. Of particular note was the battle in the last race where it was a battle supreme over the final fifty metres with Robbie Fradd throwing everything at the Tony Gollan trained Mr Jetset and Jeff Lloyd equally showing some urgent riding on Starocity trained by Toby Edmonds. Look at the reins on Mr Jetset and Robbie Fradd in his effort to lift it over the line in the last. Amazing! (see photo).
Meanwhile Rob Heathcote trained a winning double with Privlaka and Bidii Babe winning on the program – both look like ones to follow in the coming weeks. Finally, I just want to say there is an advantage going to the track and watching the horses parade. Londehero looked a picture in the yard and then raced accordingly saluting at the great odds of $10. With the weather warming up and the Brisbane Racing Club scheduling some themed weekends over the coming months – it may be a great time to grab a few mates and head to the track!
NB *As this form assessment was made prior to race-day, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day.

Race 1
A two year old fillies race to start the day! Tiara Star (10) had a nice trial recently on the Gold Coast and is a member of the Toby Edmonds/Jeff Lloyd winning team that has been performing so well in recent weeks in town. Real Princess (1) made up a heap of ground in her debut run at Toowoomba and should be fitter for that outing. There have been no early moves in the market to identify any confidence with any of the runners mentioned above. I will put in the John Zielke trained Royal Myth (7) in for third – she has drawn barrier 1 and has Jim Byrne on board. John Zielke has a massive success with his two year old team last season – maybe he can start off the season with a win here! Dream Kisses (3) has been heavily backed $5.50 to $3.80.
Selections: 10-1-7-3.

Race 2
Now for the two year old colts and geldings race. One has been seriously backed here. Unlikely Story (9) trained by Tony Gollan and to be ridden by the inform Robbie Fradd has drawn barrier one and has been smashed in early betting - $5.50 to $3.20. Two others have been seen at the trials and have performed well – they are Flamin’ Sid (1) and Wonder Boom (2). If they had drawn better I would have tipped them. In these early races in the season drawing handy can be the difference of winning and losing so I am staying with the money trail. Keep your eye on the markets here – there are some serious betting stables – maybe there will be some more moves closer to post time.
Selections: 9-1-2-7.

Race 3
War Baby (4) looked the winner a couple of weeks ago and was run down late by Denominator – who came out and won again last weekend. At her first run at 2200m it was an impressive performance. She can go one better this week. Emerald City (1) was in the same race and ran well - looks the obvious danger here this week.
Selections: 4-1-2-6.

Race 4
Excelartie (11) is $16 in the markets and I am tipping him here. I think it is one of those races that anything can win so I have gone for some value. The form has been very solid since returning from a spell with two wins from three starts. He has had a month off and always runs well fresh. There has been some money for Another Whiskey (8) backed from $4 to $3. The gelding is first up from a spell, has barrier one and a claim for apprentice Tiffani Brooker. Looks the hardest to beat here. Hard Stride (1) won well first up but has never been placed second up ever so i have left him out this week. Bagger Chance (9) came to town last start, drew barrier 18 and won well at Eagle Farm – this was an emotional win for Chinchilla trainer Andrew Donnelly who savoured the win. The grey gelding, at seven years old, has an impressive record with eight wins and six placings from eighteen starts.
Selections: 11-8-9-4.

Race 5
Hi Harry (3) gets the nod here. It was a big run behind Rocky Balboa (1) who he meets here again this week, a little better at the weights. The horse to keep a big watch on is the Chris Anderson trained Sharp Speedo (14) who has been well found in early markets with some solid money seeing it backed from $21 to $13 currently. The Heathcote trained Hearts Honour (2) has a gear change this week with blinkers on for the first time – keep him safe here as well. The stable has been in solid form in recent weeks.
Selections: 3-1-14-2 rough chance 10.

Race 6
Another one of these Class 3 races – wow they are making it tough each week! Pepperano (14) has had no luck this week drawing against the outside fence in barrier 14. Matthew McGillivray will need some luck to win – but the horse has just won a recent barrier trial at Deagon and looks well placed here. The Natalie McCall trained I Can’t See Who (13) has strung two wins in a row and has drawn nicely in barrier 2 – Glen Colless is aboard and the mare will be given every chance in this race. The Umbrella Man (7) returned to the winners circle recently with a win at Ipswich – has always showed some promise and will test these if he gets any luck.
Selections: 14-13-7-9 rough chance 17.
***************************************************************************************************
Race 7
Marscay Force (13) was impressive a few weeks ago at Eagle Farm- I think that Gordon Yorke has a good opinion of this gelding. Desert General (11) is coming back in distance – but he has been in some solid form and just needs a change in luck here to get the chockies this week. I have tipped some value here in these two - could be a good result for your quinellas, exactas and exotic bets. Total Authority (7) and Dream Finnish (10) round out the placings.
Selections: 13-11-10-7-8.

Race 8
Quatronic (10) is coming off a nice win at Rosehill last start when favourite. Has drawn barrier 20 and looks like it will need some luck from out there. There are a few positives, Jim Byrne takes the ride, it is undefeated over the distance and never been beaten at Doomben – I think I will gamble and take the $7 and buy Jim a beer after the race when he gets it home! Man of His Word (9) have been in tremendous form and won last start at Doomben – it will need some luck here as he normally gets back and makes a run late. Shamfrancisco (12) is trained by David Vandyke and has been well backed to win this race firming from $7 to $4.50 in the markets. The mare is looking for a hat trick of wins. Dandy One (17) looks well placed here as well and if he gets in the field may be one to throw in your last leg of the quadrella for some value. Taillevent (15) ran home well last start behind Marscay Force – if Marscay Force wins the race before it may be a good lead into the chances of this gelding in the race.
Selections: 10-9-12-15 rough chance 17.
